Zom 100 is an apocalypse story that involves Akira’s bucket list that the character is trying to complete while surviving thezombie outbreak. After years of feeling unfulfilled in corporate life, Akira dreams of finally living life on his own terms – one of his goals is to meet a nice girl.

But is this girl Shizuka? She’s introduced in episode 2 of the anime when Akira goes to the store to buy drinks for himself. We quickly see Akira falling for her. Fortunately, there is much more to their relationship than you might expect in this survival game filled with humor,horror, and personal discovery.
Shizuka’s Personality & Background
Before the Zombie outbreak, Shizuka worked in the financial sector for a multinational company. However, much like Akira, she didn’t love what she was doing.She wanted to be a doctor,but only her dad had a say in decisions regarding her career. When the zombies took over, she finally got a chance to break free. Now, her number one goal is to do whatever it takes to avoid the zombies.
Shizuka is an intellectual. She’s quick on her feet, knows her stuff, and can think her way out of any pickle. At first, she wasn’t a fan of teaming up with others, but then she met Akira. Shizuka is also super fit, thanks to her workout routine and healthy eating habits. She has strong willpower and prevents herself from eating any kind of sugar-related food, as we see in episode 2. Always thinking ahead,Shizuka studies zombie movies for survival tips.

She even rigged multiple cameras all over the place, so she could keep an eye on the zombies. Her inventiveness helps protect Akira from a truck accident. However, it was revealed that she did this to stay away from Akira, as she believes staying in his company will bring her down as well.She sees him as a huge risk factor. Overall, Shizuka works hard, thinks strategically, and prizes her autonomy. Now life-or-death stakes motivate her ingenuity, drive, and grit.
Does Shizuka Become A Zombie?
Life isn’t easy in their world, but Shizuka and Akira are doing their best. Despite being infected early on,Shizuka is able to avoid becoming a zombie due to an antidote. This antidote isn’t just any medicine; it was made from the blood of Izuna Tokage, a character we’ll meet soon. All this happened while Akira’s group was exploring a location relevant to the overall story. Before the unexpected attack, we see a heartfelt conversation between Shizuka and Akira, where the latter opens up about his lofty aspirations.
The antidote created from the special blood is able to counteract the infection and allows Shizuka to avoid a negative fate. Compared to Akira, who acts in a more impulsive manner, her sensible attitude also decreases the chances of her suffering such a misfortune again anytime soon. So, she’s able to stay human, at least for the time being. Meanwhile, Akira keeps focused on working hard to make his ambitious goals happen.
Do Akira and Shizuka End Up Together?
Akira is a potential partner for Shizuka in the apocalyptic world. Yet, there was a time when his affections were firmly rooted in his colleague, Saori Ohtori. Saori was the driving force behind Akira’s professional life at their shared production company. She was a kind soul who always cared for Akira’s well-being. However, her position as mistress to the department head complicated things. The apocalypse brought atragic twist to their story, where Akira’s attempt to rescue Saori ended in despair when he found her turned into a zombie.
A pivotal turn in Akira’s life came when he crossed paths with Shizuka. She has captured his heart, even though he occasionally finds himself admiring other women. This might be seen as a warning sign, yet Akira is a human with desires that sometimes get the better of him. In the manga, their connection becomes even stronger after Akisa confesses his feelings to her. This was met with initial rejection by Shizuka, only to later reveal thatshe, too, holds feelings for him. However, she’s a Tsundere who has difficulty expressing herself.
While Akira and Shizuka have openly expressed their mutual affection, a full-fledged romantic relationship hasn’t materialized yet in the storyline. Despite this, both are more than love-dovey at this point in the manga, even though it’s not overly expressed. Their relationship is charged with unspoken romantic energy and connection. Let’s hope the author doesn’t take their sweet time, dragging out their will-they-won’t-theyromance. Given how the story is going, we may never see them living a full life.Akira may be well dead by the time he completes his bucket list.
