Making the rounds on social media isMarvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Web. A now canceled live-service multiplayerSpider-Mangame for PS5 and potentially PC. Revealed through a classified pitch, the presentation showed how Insomniac Games would make this project a reality.

A multiple year plan was being put in place with seasonally content being delivered every three months. It’s wouldn’t have just been a multiplayer experience you would enjoy with friends but you could also face off against them too. Plans forMarvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Webfeatured both PvE and PvP content.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Web – With or Against Friends?
In the leaked pitch, Insomniac Games detailed everything they had planned for their upcoming live-service project.Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Webwould allow the team to create a multiplayer experience that would give players a chance to create their own Spidersona andfight against the Sinister Six.
They described the game as “a multiplayer sandbox with unparalleled heart.” With theSpider-Mangames under its belt, Insomniac Games would be pulling elements from the solo adventures while adding multiplayer exclusive features. Familiar missions like rescuing civilians and street crimes would be under the PvE category.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man: The Great Web was Planned to be a Play on One Marvel Comic that the MCU is Struggling to Adapt
PvP would have missions types like Turf Battles and Skill Challenges. The pitch doesn’t write out the details of these missions but from the concept art shown, we can guess Turf Battles would be against other players where you would fight over control of an area. One team would be their Spidersonas while the other side would be made up of Symbiote characters.
Skill Challenges sound like putting your Spider-Man moves to the test. Something similar to the Taskmaster Challenges inMarvel’s Spider-Man (2018)or Spider-Training missions inSpider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)but against other players. It would be a ton of fun to web swing race against other players, friends or otherwise.

Would PvP Be Necessary In Spider-Man: The Great Web?
Insomniac Games adding both PvP and PvE elements toMarvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Webis a smart idea. While we haveHelldivers 2as a strong PvE only, live-service title, a similar model would give Insomniac more options for activities in this version of NYC.
While most fans wouldn’t think about battling it out against other Spidersonas, it makes sense in this Turf Battle pitch against symbiote players. In addition, the Skill Challenges are simple ways to have friendly competition between your friends. Who wouldn’t want to race against their pals and find out who’s the bestSpider-Manplayer in the friend group?

Spider-Man: The Great Web Would Have Been the Biggest, Most Diverse and Fully Fledged Spider-Man Games Ever, So Why Did Insomniac and PlayStation Cancel It?
Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Webwas scheduled to release late 2025/early 2026 withmultiple seasons spanning up to 2030. The fate of this live-service multiplayer project remains dead but with buzz online asking for the project’s revival, maybe PlayStation will bring it back.
