Writer Taylor Sheridan is currently awaiting the series finale of his breakout seriesYellowstone. The neo-Western series has built up to high stakes as the titular Yellowstone ranch faces threats from within the Dutton family. After a lot of off-screen drama, Sheridan might be finally done with the flagship show.

While Sheridan is known for his hands-on approach to producing shows, he has also put his hands in multiple series along with prequels and spinoffs ofYellowstone. Part of the reason why he reportedly worked out a new deal with Paramount was so he could afford the nine-figure sum he paid to buy the Four Sixes Ranch, whereYellowstonewas filmed.

While the Dutton family had internal and external struggles for the bulk of theYellowstoneseries, the eponymous ranch acts as a character in itself due to the connection it has with various members of the family. The Yellowstone Ranch in the series is actually shot at two places, the legendary Four Sixes Ranch and the Chief Joseph Ranch.
12 Major Deaths in Yellowstone Which Did Not Sit Well With the Audience
Series creatorTaylor Sheridanhas been vocal about his love for the American Frontier and has mentioned that the historic Four Sixes Ranch was extremely aspiration for him while growing up. Hence, when the opportunity arose to buy it, he jumped at it and tried to make an offer. Of course, the 266,000-acre ranch was not a cheap sell.
Sheridan reportedly shelled out $320 million for the historic ranch which was founded in 1870 (viaLubbock Avalanche Journal). Situated in West Texas, the ranch reportedly served as an inspiration for Sheridan when he was creating the Yellowstone ranch in the show. He said toTHR,

I grew up in the shadow of the Four Sixes. To just get one of their horses was a status symbol because they’re so well-trained. This was the ranch I based [Yellowstone’s] scope and operation on because it didn’t exist in Montana. Most ranches there had already been carved up. They’d already lost it.
The writer mentioned that it was a lifelong dream for him to own a ranch and always felt that he would make enough money to buy a ranch and then make films with Martin Scorsese (this was when he was still an aspiring actor).
