Disney has announced a $1.5 billion investment in popularFortnitemaker Epic Games and is buying an equity stake in the company. This multiyear project would bring new content from its brands and franchises into the game and provide exciting new opportunities for players to enjoy.

The partnership was announced at Disney’s Q1 FY24 Earnings Call, and thepress releasestated that this new experience will be built in Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. The company has described the new project as a“new games and entertainment universe”that will let players“play, watch, shop, and engage”in stories and characters.

This means that players will be able to watch movies and TV shows across its portfolio and also play the games created in those worlds. The“shop”also seems to be a bit more central part of this partnership, so there are chances that players would need to purchase the movies or shows to watch, or maybe it is just to buy cosmetics and other items.
The company has been using post-production techniques such as cinematics and animation in films and shows likeThe Lion KingandThe Mandalorianfor years now. It has also been used in the development of games likeKingdom Hearts 3andStar Wars Jedi: Survivor. The company has already collaborated in the game with the Nexus War with Galactus event.
