When it comes toYellowstone, Taylor Sheridan knows how to keep fans hooked with jaw-dropping drama, ruthless power plays, and characters carrying enough emotional baggage to fill a ranch. But what happens when a showrunner as brilliant as Sheridan starts leaving behind the very characters who gaveYellowstoneits emotional punch? Yep, we’re looking at you, forgotten soul.

If the final two episodes sideline one of the series’ most heart-wrenching stories, it might be time for Sheridan to hang up his TV-writing hat. Fans are already buzzing about whether he’s biting off more than he can chew with his ever-growing empire. After all, aYellowstonefinale without its most broken character? That’s like Dutton Ranch without the chaos — it just doesn’t work, lol.

Yellowstoneis failing Tate Dutton: Taylor Sheridan’s last Dutton heir deserves more than a throwaway arc

Tate Dutton deserved better. TheYellowstoneteen, who’slived through enough traumato rival a comic book origin story, was criminally underused in Season 5B. With just two episodes left,Taylor Sheridan seems cluelessabout what to do with Brecken Merrill’s character, reducing him to a parody of his former self.

Tate’s story should’ve been front and center afterKevin Costner’s John Dutton’s death in the midseason premiere. This kid was kidnapped by white supremacists, fought off a rattlesnake, and killed a man to protect Monica — yet none of that weight seems to follow him. Instead, Season 5B saw him whining about his parents kissing or helping move boxes. Like, for real?

Tate Dutton, played by Brecken Merrill, has been at the center of criticism for his poorly written character development.

It’s baffling, especially since1883teased Tate’s role as the seventh-generation Dutton —the one destined to lose the ranch. But instead of leaning into that rich setup, Sheridan has sidelined him. His potential to drive the family’s legacy or avenge his grandfather’s death has been ignored.

Sure,Yellowstonehas had to juggle multiple storylinespost-Kevin Costner’s exit. But forgetting Tate in a show about the Dutton dynasty? That’s unforgivable. If Sheridan plans to set Tate up forYellowstonespin-offs like6666, he’s doing a terrible job.

With the clock ticking, fans can only hope for a last-minute twist. Otherwise, it might just prove Sheridan’s losing his touch withYellowstone.

A good Western’s always on my list…I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.

Sheridan’s1883and his work with Sam Elliott have Selleck fired up. He alluded, hyping up their decades-long bromance:

Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan May Not Be Buddies Anymore but 1 Yellowstone Star Still Hasn’t Let All the Drama Affect Her Friendship With Costner

Sam was great in [1883], Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam.

While CBS pulled the plug onBlue Bloods, Selleck isn’t bitter. He’s just ready for a fresh adventure. A Taylor Sheridan collab? A Western comeback? Somebody hand this man a hat, stat.
