XSEED Gamesannounced on December 14that they will be releasing Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed Director’s Cut on the Nintendo Switch in North America. The updated version of the original game will be out sometime in 2023, and will include a new story route revolving around the character of Kati Räikkönen, alongside all of the downloadable content from the original version of the game.

Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed was previously released by XSEED on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2014, and later on the PlayStation 4 and PC. A localization of the game released in Japan as Akiba’s Trip 2, it was a sequel to the original Akiba’s Trip, which was also released in North America by XSEED as Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed. In something of a surprising move, XSEED will also be making the extra content from Undead & Undressed Director’s Cut available as DLC for those 2014 PS4 and PC releases of the original Undead & Undressed.

Primarily, the game will include the aforementioned story route for Kati, considered to be the “true ending” of the story. The trailer indicates that the full game, with that extra story route, will include an English dub. XSEED will follow up with retail plans and pricing at a later time. That trailer also covers up the…unmentionables of characters in several scenes with a glowing effect, but is sure to note that “The white glow will not be present in the final game.”

Originally developed by Acquire, Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed is a unique beat ‘em up that tasks players with tracking down and fighting vampires called Synthisters in Tokro’s Akihabara district. The unique mechanic of this action is right there in the title: Stripping the vampires of their clothes to expose them to the sun and destroy them. It’s a quirky, fanservice-focused sort of series that feels right at home being set in Tokyo’s most otaku-popular area.

The original Akiba’s Trip spawned an updated version of itself for the PlayStation Portable, and an HD remake on the PS4, Switch, and PC, which was the version published by XSEED as Hellbound & Debriefed. The series also received an anime adaptation in 2017, and a follow-up action RPG titled Akiba’s Beat was released in 2017. Still going after over a decade, it seems the stripping won’t be stopping any time soon.
