Xboxhas confirmed that it will return to Lost Angeles for an annual event this summer, as well as the standalone showcase forStarfieldthat was announced earlier this year. The news comes courtesy of a blog post summarizing the Xbox & Bethesda Developer_Direct, revealing that they will share more of what is in the works at a standalone event in Los Angeles later this year.
“As we announced previously, to dedicate the proper amount of time for a deep dive into Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield, a standalone show is in the works.” Xbox wrote in theblog poston Wednesday. “In addition to this, our teams are working hard and look forward to sharing even more of what is next for our fans when we return to Los Angeles for our yearly showcase this summer.” However, it is worth noting that Xbox did not mention E3 by name, meaning it could be a different showcase that takes place around the same time as E3 in Los Angeles.

E3 is set to return in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center after a four-year hiatus. There is also Summer Game Fest, a digital showcase that will be held by Geoff Keighley a couple of days before E3. Neither Summer Game Fest nor E3 has confirmed which publishers and developers will participate in the upcoming events. However, Xbox’s announcement could refer to a presence in both shows or an all-new developer direct in Los Angeles around the same time.
The last time Xbox had a physical show was back in 2019 before the flagship events of the gaming industry, such as Summer Game Fest, E3, and PlayStation’s State of Play switched to online events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, E3 will return with a physical show after a long hiatus, which will run from June 13 to June 16. The upcoming event will be held by ReedPop, the organizer that has taken over running duties from the Entertainment Software Association. Summer Game Fest, on the other hand, will be held in a live show format at the YouTube theater in California.
Although information about Xbox’s newly announced show is thin at the moment, there will likely be three flagship events this summer. Xbox did not mention E3 by name for its presence in a physical show, leading to speculations that another Xbox & Bethesda developer direct could be run around early June 2023.
