The Poohniverse has struck again, and this time, the situation seems to be more grave than ever before. After the slasher-horror pieces from the Twisted Childhood Universe (TCU) that started withWinnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honeyand followed by its sequel, this next film seems to hold an equally carnage vision as it strikes yet another fan-favorite character: Peter Pan.

This is because this very beloved character, who pretty much shaped a lot of kids’ childhood, has been transformed into a much grittier and gorier version in the upcomingNeverland Nightmare. And, as things get out of hand for this alternate crossover universe that reimagines beloved fairy-tale characters as horror movie villains, fans can’t help but express severe disapproval.
Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare: The Bloody Poohniverse Strikes Again
After teasing the British independent horror film that will serve as the third installment in the TCU in 2022,the Poohniversehas returned to strike horror in fans’ hearts once again through the brutalPeter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. And this time, the character has been transformed into something that looks like a bloodthirsty serial killer out on the loose.
In an official first trailer recently released for the film and shared by@DiscussingFilm on X, the iconic fairytale character seems barely recognizable as he gets completely reimagined into an incredibly darker version. Among the grittier themes that see him spilling as much blood and as fiercely as possible, it seems this time, the TCU has gone a bit too far.

As fans already know, the original children’s favorite storyline by J. M. Barrie saw Peter and Wendy, along with John and Michael, embarking on innumerable adventures in the Neverland. Being the boy who never grew up in the magical world of Neverland, he even advises Wendy through his iconic phrase,“Don’t grow up. It’s a trap.”

However, this revamped version seems to be speaking otherwiseas Wendy Darling has to grow up and be strong and brave for herself and the people she loves if she wants to save herself and her brother, Michael, from the clutches of the “evil” Pan. This also sees a whole other variant of Tinkerbell who hogs heroine while being convinced it’s pixie dust.
To say the least, this third film in the TCU replaces the bouts of laughter and cries of joy with screams for help and Pan’s knife striking against flesh as he mercilessly kills whoever his heart desires. And, of course, fans are anything but happy about it as the beloved characters who pretty much shaped their childhood getpainted into twisted, uglier, and much more complex colors.

Fans React to TCU Ruining Their Beloved Peter Pan
Peter Pan was unarguably always meant to be a kids’ character, with his innocence and boyish charms making him the ultimate fan-favorite hero of all time. That said, reimagining him in a way that pretty much ruins all those iconic childhood memories and transforms him into a roguish villainisn’t sitting well with the fanswho grew up watching Pan’s misadventures.
While a part of the fandom is taking this as a joke, the other part is divided as to why their beloved naive characters are being made into such disturbing variants of themselves that weren’t even meant to be. Taking to X, here’s how this disappointed and disapproving part of the fandom is reacting to the same:

This public domain universe is going to get out of hand really fast.
I’m not a fan of these retelling Disney films in dark ways. Can’t do it.
why are they turning kids cartoons into horror movies…?
Nobody asked for this man
This looks bad. Just a generic B movie slasher where they reference Peter Pan’s name a lot.
I’m not sure if that’s gonna be a good idea

At this point, judging from how quickly the events seem to be progressing for the Poohniverse, it might as well not come as a surprise to fans if the plot twist reveals Captain Hook being the good guy trying to save the children from Pan. Who knows? That just might be the case for all we know, especially after considering this troubling trailerfor the horror remakeNeverland Nightmare.
