The official announcement trailer of NetEase Games’ upcoming game,Marvel Rivals, was dropped in March 2024, leaving the gaming community wild. As per the description, players will be able to play as Marvel heroes in a superhero team-based PVP shooter. It was confirmed that the free-to-play game will be released for Microsoft Windows and macOS, however, there’s some hope for console players as some interesting information was found in theMarvel Rivalsalpha files.
Marvel Rivals‘ current alpha will run from Friday, June 18, 2025, until Tuesday, June 02, 2025, and hopefully, console players will get a solid announcement after the end of the alpha. The game, which is very similar to Blizzard’s Overwatch 2, will feature many fan-favorite characters from the Marvel Universe, including villains.
Marvel Rivals is expected to be released on Xbox Series X/S and PS5
A user on X has managed to gather some interesting information fromNetEase Games’Marvel Rivals‘PC alpha. The user, who is namedGMatrixGames, has revealed that some changes were made to support the platform [Xbox] as well as Microsoft Store item IDs and PlayStation Store IDs for purchasing in-game currency are now part of the game’s code.

Unfortunately, players who have the old generation of consoles will not get this game as the files suggest NetEase Games is working on console ports for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Much like Overwatch 2, the game features a 6v6 team-based combatfeaturing many popular Marvel characterslike Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange.
Marvel Rivalsmight be released on old-gen consoles as well
While there’s no official announcement from the studios, Discord moderator Smexican has hinted that they are planning to explore other platforms as well in the future. The message said,
“The game’s first stop will be on Steam. However, we’re actively exploring potential releases on other platforms. Keep an eye out for further announcements as our universe expands.”
So, Xbox One and PS4 players shouldn’t feel hopeless as there is a slight possibility that they release the games on the old-gen consoles as well. The PC alpha of the game was dropped on May 10th, 2024, and will run until May 21st, 2024. The best part about this game is that it will be free-to-play but the release date is not announced as of now.
