Gotham is in crisis mode in Batman Arkham Shadow.

Batman Arkham Shadow Story Trailer Sets the Stage for the Bat and the Rats

TheArkhamfranchise is considered one of the best superhero video game adaptations across the PlayStation 3, 4, and 5. The free-flow combat combined with stealth encounters offered players a chance to play as The Dark Knight like never before. A solid storyline and some of the most iconic villains from the universe helped to further flesh out the universe.

Batman Arkham Shadowis set within the same timeline, occurring betweenBatman Arkham OriginsandArkham Asylum. The game is being developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios in partnership with WB Games and DC Comics. It appears Rocksteady has no part to play in this title, but we will still get some mainstays from the studio.

The primary antagonist of the game is the Rat King, a new moniker given to Otis Flannegan (Ratcatcher), who is laying waste to the city of Gotham with his gang, The Rats. Set on the Fourth of July, key figures such as Inspector Gordon, Harvey Dent, and other public officials have been abducted, allowing criminals to run rampant in the streets.

TheArkhamtitles have been highly influential within the gaming sphere, and we see games even today implementing mechanics first seen in Arkham Asylum. One of those is free-flow combat, which will return in Arkham Shadow. There will also be Predator encounters, allowing players to swoop in from the shadows and take down enemies silently.

The Fourth of July is not so joyful in Gotham.

The game will also allow players to explore iconic locations from theBatmanuniverse, such as the Monarch Theatre, the Bowery, and the Beacon Hotel. Several hidden details within the trailer show Camouflaj is well-versed with the source material.

Considering this is based on Batman’s early days, we might see him be a bit more brutal. One quote from the story trailer that stands out is “How far will I go to destroy him?” alluding to the Caped Crusader not pulling any punches in this adventure.
