The Acolytewas supposed to be a gateway for new fans into the Star Wars universe while catering little to long-time fans of the franchise. The show drew heavily from the EU while telling a completely new story that would not have required any previous knowledge about the Star Wars universe. However, the show failed miserably, not only failing to get new fans in through the gate but also alienating old fans, as it was expected to do.

However, Star Wars is not the first IP that made some changes that did not sit well with fans.Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s sequel series,The Legend of Korra, was also working with a story that had allegedly ‘gone woke’, but the attitude that Byran Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino had is reflected in the story that they ended up telling: one that might have stumbled a little, but stayed true to what the IP is all about.
The creators ofAvatar:The Last Airbenderwanted to make a sequel that was for everyone
Bryan KonietzkoandMichael Dante DiMartinoset out to create the Legend of Korra for a slightly more mature audience, aging up the main cast of the story. However, never did the creators of the show feel like segmenting their viewers into categories, setting out to create a story that feels like a natural extension of the first series, but also invites new viewers. Speaking with theWall Street Journal, Michael Dante DiMartino said:
We want everyone to watch. Definitely fans of the first series will not be disappointed in this one. The tone is a little older, the characters are a little older than the first series—they’re teenagers. Korra is 16 so she’s older than Aang was. So I think maybe some people who weren’t into the first show might find this one and be into it.

WhileThe Acolyteset out to cater to newer fans, forgetting what the old, core fandom wanted from their Star Wars stories,Avatar: The Last Airbendercreators were very conscious about retaining the old while keeping the door open for the new.
The third Avatar Series would be the true litmus test of whether the IP caters to the woke or the anti-woke mob
It is heavily rumored that along with the first installment of the adult Gaang film trilogy, fans ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderwill be receiving the much-awaited third Avatar series, one focusing on the next Avatar after Korra. The character will be an Earthbender and would be the first entry into the franchise in over a decade. A lot has changed since then with respect to the entertainment landscape, with audiences becoming more divisive about the kind of content they expect from Hollywood studios.
“We had more of a harsh character idea for him”: Avatar: The Last Airbender Almost Butchered Uncle Iroh in Original Plan
While the main team that forms Avatar Studios has barely misstepped, as the failure ofThe Legend of Korrasquarely sits on Nickelodeon’s inability to handle the show properly, the third Avatar series has more than a decent chance of being great. However, certain concepts of the show might rub the woke mob wrong, while others might get the conservative audience chanting ‘go woke, go broke’. No one can be sure until more information about the series comes out.
