Live-service games likeHelldivers 2can be a tricky business for developers. On one hand, the studio faces the challenge of creating constant content updates to keep the players satisfied; on the other, it makes for a great revenue model to keep the game in its prime.Helldivers 2seems to be diving into these tried-and-tested territories but is focusing on a successful roadmap.

The studio’s Creative Director and CEO has stated that this very issue is troublesome, but the studio would never force a player to empty their pockets unless they’re really enjoying the game. Will this hold true in the future? We can only speculate in the meantime.
Helldivers 2 Seems to Want to Create Experiences That Naturally Make Players Spend Money
Being the paid game it is,Helldivers 2charges you $39.99 for a co-op experience that’s rich in style, gunplay, and traditional gameplay loop. The game focuses largely on a combat system that urges players to have their own playstyle and, at the same time, be aware of their teammates since friendly fire is a tricky thing.
In aposton X recently, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, expressed his opinion about in-game monetization. And by the looks of it, it seems that the studio has a quality-first approach to its entire philosophy.

Helldivers 2 is Looking Every Bit What a Star Wars Mandalorian Game Could be
However, this will only be proven true over time as players understand what parts of the game truly feel like pay-to-win. Otherwise, the $39.99 should suffice in the long run. At the time of writing, there hardly seems to be an issue with how monetization with the game works, given how cruel this system can be regardless of the platform.
The Art of Monetization in Modern Live-Service Games
Mobile games aside, free-to-play titles can be quite the trickster at making players spend money for the basic gameplay look they should be enjoying for free. In the process of earning more profits, games often become the victims of a business model that eventually doesn’t work well with players.
Just Like Palworld, Helldivers 2 is too Popular for its Own Good
This can get worse if the game already carries a price tag at launch. Players expect the content to be worthy of their money, and asking for more money becomes a farfetched approach.
Helldivers 2is seemingly fighting this stereotype, given how the game shines in its quality and the overall experience is mostly without major issues.

We’ll have to wait and watch how the studio hones this philosophy and how the game performs over time onmultiple platforms. For now, the game is in a good place based onSteamplayer counts and reviews.
