Universal 1440 Entertainment, the part of Universal that handles the production of straight-to-DVD projects, has delayed its upcomingÂDOOMmovie adaptation to Fall 2019, reportsDread Central. However, do not fret, as the reasoning behind the delay is quite the sigh of relief. The report states that the studio has “very positive feelings” about the upcoming film and has decided to push it back by a few months in order to give the filmmakers “more time to work on the VFX” - particularly a sequence that takes place in the notoriousÂDOOM setting of Hell. The studio wants to “use a broader VFX brush to really make Hell awesome”.However, while the “action and story of the Hell sequence is NOT changing,” the studio is “enhancing the location and doing some pick-up photography that supports the original vision of the scene.” The report was shortly confirmed afterward by actress Nina Bergman, who tweeted that the film would instead be released in Fall 2019.

The film, which has been in development for over a year, is poised to release this year and is directed by Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T.: Under Siege, Resident Evil: Afterlife). It is not a sequel to the 2005 flop starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but instead its own adaptation of theÂDOOMuniverse. In April 2018,the film was indirectly announcedvia actress Nina Bergman, who is starring as “Carley” in the film.

Other members of the cast include Amy Manson (Once Upon a Time, The White Princess), Dominic Mafham(Doctor Who, Humans),Clayton Adams (Stealth), and more.

The movie takes place at a UAC facility titled the Phobos Compound, with the plot focused on a group of space marines investigating the premises. The film will star Mafham asÂDOOM 3villain Dr. Betruger and will feature classic Demons as the main antagonists. It releases later this year, with most hints pointing to a digital-only or a straight-to-DVD release.
