The anime world might change forever with the announcement of a new project.Twins Hinahima animewas created using 95% AI and is scheduled for a Spring 2025 release. As we go through the information about how this anime was created, the words of Hayao Miyazaki instantly flash in front of us. He would not be happy with how things are changing in the industry.

This anime could prove revolutionary, which seems to be the goal of the makers as well, but the announcement has attracted a lot of backlash from fans. And, it’s not surprising as the use of AI in creative fields is still quite controversial. So, here’s everything you need to know about the new AI anime and how fans feel about it.
AI animeTwins Hinahimagets announced for Spring 2025 release
With Frontier Works and KaKa Creation at the helm of the animation production,Twins Hinahimahasbeen officially announced. What makes this announcement a hot topic of discussion is the extensive use of AI in its production. From the backgrounds to the animation, the entire process was done with the help of Supportive AI.
The production team included animators, CG staff, art directors, and cinematographers. The staff seemingly polished what AI created, and sometimes they created rough sketches, which were then adjusted by AI.

So, it’s safe to say that it was a collaborative process between AI and human creativity. Industry veterans Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and Makoto Tezuka are involved in the project and shared their insights on AI’s use in anime. Tezuka compared AI to CG and said how initially CG was also frowned upon. He argued that AI isn’t here to replace animators or to steal their jobs, but to broaden the horizon of possibilities. While Tezuka’s opinion was more hopeful and positive, Yasuhiko’s approach was more realistic.

Yasuhiko stated that there has always been a shortage of staff in the industry. AI can help the animators with mundane and redundant tasks, which would save them time. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining artistic and creative integrity. According to him, the approach needs to be conscious enough to not turn into overreliance.
While Yasuhiko’s words capture every aspect of this discourse, they highlight an interesting problem. Who draws the line between the right usage and something like overreliance, as these concepts are quite subjective?

Hayao Miyazaki wouldn’t be happy with this anime and neither are fans
Hayao Miyazakihas been an integral part of the anime industry for a long time. He has a strong set of values and he’s extremely vocal about them. Miyazaki was once shown an experimental AI clip with a zombie in it, and the director was not happy with what was presented to him. ThisYouTube videoshows his reaction and here’s what he said:
I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.

He also felt that humans are losing faith in themselves with experiments like this, and he would never incorporate such technology into his own works. It makes one wonder about Miyazaki’s disappointment with this news.
When the news of the AI anime hit the internet, fans weren’t exactly happy either.

Love knowing what not to watch 😊
“Supportive AI” have you considered having a well-paced production schedule and paying your animators more

maybe it’s time for companies to finally respect the animators and actually pay them instead of escaping to AI? Ever think of that?
95% ! I don’t call that “AI supported”. It a “man supported” AI crap. I barely tolerate AI when it comes to visuals and animations, but 95% is very excessive.
The whole discourse presents two contrasting perspectives, either AI would alleviate the stressful levels of workload or it would bring doom for those who work in the industry. It’s hard to tell which one of these would prove to be true, but once AI usage becomes prevalent in the industry, there may be no turning back.
Twins Hinahima animeis scheduled to release in Spring 2025.
