After months of rumors, leaks, and speculations, the PS5 Pro was revealed a few ago and Sony Interactive Entertainment bided its time to work on this mid-generation boost. It did not take long for the company to unveil the 30th Anniversary Collection featuring a nostalgic color scheme making it a hot item for consumers to secure but the scalpers beat them to it.
Scalping was a problem that Sony and its consumers faced during the launch of the original PS5. People have been paying top dollar to secure the next-generation console and had no choice but to bite the bullet and pay the price of scalped PS5s. Fortunately, global stock has improved and it seems like history is repeating itself except in Japan.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Is Taking the Fight to Scalpers to Secure a PS5 Pro
Some naysayers doubt that the PlayStation player base will upgrade to the PS5 Pro, especially with a working base PS5 and slim model available for purchase for a much cheaper price tag. The Pro model is not as highly sought-after as many would expect sinceit is still available for pre-order, at least in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Japanese division anticipated that scalping would become rampant again and thought of a creative way to combat it. Those who want to secure a pre-ordermust have at least 30 hours of playtimeon either a PS4 or a PS5 before they can pre-order the Pro models which is a nightmare for scalpers who never used one of these consoles.

This requirement is particularly clever to fend off people with no intention of using these consoles and are only interested in making a profit. There is a strong likelihood that Sony has yet to learn from its past mistakes four years ago when the original PlayStation 5 was released and stocks were low. Scalpers will always find a solution but the effort to prevent this is inspiring.

Japanese players will have better chances to secure a pre-order now that scalpers have no way to prove they are players. It would be wise to secure one now before scalpers find a way to work around this requirement.
