It’s like the Wii-U but in reverse.
During an earnings call, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the Switch’s successor will play the current library of games, along with Nintendo Switch Online games. This was announced on Nintendo Japan’s official Twitter/X account.

Is The Switch Backward Compatibility Announcement Damage Control?
It’s notable that this announcement has happened on the heels of an earnings call where Nintendo revised itssales forecast downward, due to the Switch being at the end of its lifespan and selling fewer units.
While the Switch has received some new games in 2024, such asSuper Mario Party: Jamboree, they haven’t exactly been triple-A must-have games.

Whatever the case, it’s exciting to have a proper update about the Nintendo Switch’s successor, especially following an unusual period of silence and a rapidly approaching holiday season without official trailers.

The fact that the Switch library is compatible with the new hardware means there could be updated performance options, such as what the PS5 Pro is doing with older titles. Hopefully, these will be included in the free updates and not paid remasters.

The continuation ofNintendo Switch Onlinemeans there could also be an expanded roster there, such as Nintendo GameCube, DS, and Wii titles.
Now that Furukawa is discussing details ofthe Switch’s successor, it shouldn’t be too long until an official reveal is made, and the months of speculation about its specs can end.
