Grogu and his relationship with his unexpected father figure captured the hearts of millions of fans and made this series an instant success. Though his face is covered for most of this series, Pedro Pascal’s performance has garnered strong praise as well. Season 4 is already in development which is great news for eager fans. Let’s dive deeper into season 3 and see which episode stands out as the best.

8Ep.3 Chapter 19: The Convert

This episode picks up right afterBo-Katan Kryzesaves Din Djarin on thewar-ravaged Mandalore. Having recovered, they make their way back to Bo-Katan’s castle only to find it in ruins and Imperial TIE fighters waiting for them. Most of the rest of this episode follows Dr. Pershing who is living on Coruscant after having been pardoned. He finds Elia Kane, a former communications officer under Moff Gideon, who betrays him and sabotages his mind wipe. Djarin and Bo-Katan are welcomed back by The Armorer.

The chapter starts with an exciting dogfight scene between Djarin, Bo-Katan, and the TIE fighters. Then veers off into the most boring part of the whole series: a catch-up on what’s happened to the doctor that had been experimenting on Grogu. And Elia Kane still works for an escaped Moff Gideon. Even though this episode sets up conflicts that arise in later episodes, most of what’s seen could’ve easily been summarized in a scene or two rather than most of an episode.

7Ep.6 Chapter 22: Guns For Hire

Bo-Katan, Djarin, and Grogu land on the utopian planet Plazir-15 in order to gather Bo-Katan’s former army-turned-mercenaries. Captain Bombardier and the Duchess, the planet’s rulers, ask them to help track down malfunctioning repurposed droids. Djarin and Bo-Katan uncover that Commissioner Helgait is responsible, which results in his exile. Later, Bo-Katan challenges the current leader of the former army and wins back her leadership role.

Though this chapter was full of notable guest stars, the offbeat ruler intro and droid CSI scenes were so left-field that it felt like another filler episode. However, Bo-Katan defeating Axe Woves for leadership and Djarin giving the Dark Saber back is an important, pivotal moment in the series.

6Ep.1 Chapter 17: The Apostate

The beginning of season 3 opens on The Armorer and other Mandalorians holding a ceremony to induct a child into the group. A Dinosaur Turtle attacks and overpowers the Mandalorians until Din Djarin and Grogu save them. The Armorer tells Djarin that if he swims in the Living Waters on Mandalore (if they still exist), he can become a Mandalorian again. Djarin and Grogu return to Nevarro where Djarin helps with a pirate problem before visiting Bo-Katan on Kalevala.

The Mandalorian Episode 1 Entry Image featuring Greef Karga, Din Djarin, an Anzellan mechanic, and Grogu

It’s a moment to catch up with characters that have been introduced to the series in previous seasons before jumping into season 3’s storyline. It reestablishes Djarin being a badass and Grogu being cute. Especially in the scene where Djarin is asleep with Grogu in his lap, and he coos atthe Hyperspace whales.

5Ep.2 Chapter 18: The Mines Of Mandalore

Djarin and Grogu go back to Tatooine and visit Peli Motto as they search for a new memory chip for IG-11. Since she doesn’t have one, she sells them an R5 unit instead, so it can scan Mandalore’s atmosphere. After the R5 droid confirms the atmosphere isn’t toxic, Djarin and Grogu explore the mines until Djarin is captured by a cyborg creature. Grogu races to Bo-Katan for help, and she saves Djarin’s life. Bo-Katan takes them to the Living Waters where she sees a Mythosaur.

This episode offers the audience its first look at the current state of the planet Mandalore. It also shows just how much Grogu has grown when he’s able to make it back to Bo-Katan for help. The fight against the cyborg with the Dark Saber was a great fight sequence that showcases how skilled of a fighter Bo-Katan is.

4Ep.4 Chapter 20: The Foundling

Grogu is introduced to Mandalorian combat training when his partner is taken by an alien pterodactyl. Bo-Katan forms a hunting party that includes Din and the boy’s father Paz Vizsla. While the group is away, Grogu watches the Armorer make a new piece of Mandalorian armor for him. He remembers how Jedi Master Kelleran Beq rescued him as the Armorer works.

The audience was able to see more of Grogu’s past in this episode which was an interesting and sad flashback. Bo-Katan and Djarin help rescue Vizsla’s son and capture the baby space dinosaurs, earning the Mandalorian clan’s respect. This and Bo-Katan’s reveal of the Mythosaur to the Armorer are important foundational pieces for later episodes.

3Ep.5 Chapter 21: The Pirate

Pirates attack Nevarro and High Magistrate Greef Karga asks Carson Teva for help, which is denied by the New Republic. Teva then finds Djarin and the Mandalorians asking them to help Nevarro. Convinced by Djarin, the Mandalorians defeat the pirates and are welcomed back by Karga. The Armorer tells Bo-Katan the Mythosaur sighting is an omen suggesting she can unite all Mandalorians.

Watching Mandalorians battle pirates on the ground and in the air at the same time was an action-packed sight to see. Bo-Katan leading a new era for the Mandalorians was exciting. However, the last scene where Teva finds out that Moff Gideon has escaped and collects Beskar fragments was a great cliffhanger ending.

2Ep.7 Chapter 23: The Spies

Gideon is informed by Kane that the Mandalorians plan to retake Mandalore. Bo-Katan unites all Mandalorians, and they fly out to Mandalore where she heads a scouting party. On the surface, they find a surviving clan loyal to Bo-Katan, and the story of Mandalore’s destruction is revealed. When they arrive at the Forge, they’re attacked by Beskar armored stormtroopers. Gideon captures Djarin, but the remaining party escapes.

Grogu is gifted IG-12 which can be controlled by him, and it’s one of the funniest moments in this series. It also has a sad sacrifice, a nerve-wracking moment as everyone watches in horror when Din is captured, and a great fighting sequence that starts on a cliff’s edge.

1Ep.8 Chapter 24: The Return

This episode begins immediately after episode 7 ends. Bo-Katan and the remaining Mandalorians find a place to take cover while they wait for Woves to tell the Mandalorians on the ships to send reinforcements to the ambushed scouting party. Djarin escapes with a bit of well-timed help from Grogu who stayed behind to rescue him. Djarin and Grogu make their way to Moff Gideon while all the Mandalorians converge on the Imperialist site. The Mandalorians fight clone troopers and Djarin and Grogu square off against the Darth Vader wannabe and the 3 Praetorian Guards.

In a true great finale move, all the fights in this last episode were intense and awesome to watch. From Djarin’s escape, Grogu facing the Praetorian Guards, to Moff Gideon fighting Bo-Katan, the fight choreography and cinematography captured the wow factor of each combat. The best moment in this episode is a toss-up between Grogu using the force as a shield and the scene where Djarin officially adopts Grogu, and Grogu becomes an apprentice. The very last shot of father and son enjoying some much-needed downtime in their new home hits right in the feels.
