While netizens and audiences, including 5 US Senators, disapproved of Netflix’s adaptation of the novel of the same name after certain comments made by the novel’s author, the show has gained additional exposure due to the tragic murder of the Netflix’s show’s Executive Producer.

3 Body Problemmight be dealing with the problem of aliens and alien invasion, but outside the realm of sci-fi, its reality too is rooted in many problems. After the author of the book, on which the show is based, received extensive criticism for his comments onthe Chinese government’s brutal incarceration of millions of Uyghur Muslims, Netflix too had to face the wrath of several netizens including 5 US Senators (via theDaily Mail).

And now it is thebrutal murder of Lin Qithat has been catching the attention of fans. The Chairman of Yoozoo Group, Qi had first acquired the rights to the book for live-action adaptation, who later sold it to Netflix after his company failed to develop the IP.
As per aChinese Outlet(via Google Translate andX), Lin was a visionary and one of the youngest billionaires in China. Initially, he hired a lawyer, Xu Yao, and appointed him as the CEO to develop the show including signing a deal with Netflix for a salary of over $3 million.

However, Xu failed to meet expectations and consequently had his salary reduced to $750,000 and additional executives were appointed to achieve success in the ventures where Xu had fallen behind. This reportedly angered Xu, who, inspired byBreaking Bad, set up a company and began testing several kinds of lethal substances.
Developing a slow poison comprised of several exotic yet absolutely lethal substances, he poisoned Lin as well as other executives with a cup of pu-erh tea. Lin, 39, passed away 10 days later and 2 others survived but have suffered lifelong injuries.

Not only did Xu Yao, inspired byBreaking Bad,manufacture lethal poison by experimenting on animals and buying drugs through dark channels, but he also failed to cooperate with the police when arrested. Lin lost his life due to lack of treatment for it took a long time to find out what lethal poisons he was given. Xu, meanwhile, could have had his sentence reduced and saved Lin’s life had he revealed the concoction of poisons he had added to the tea.

While some fans declared that the series seems more believable than the horrendous murder of Lin Qi, others agreed that this dark tale deserves a Netflix miniseries or a documentary of its own. Even though the possibility of such a documentary or miniseries seems rather far-fetched, there is no denying that the whole tale is dark and horrifying enough to give one goosebumps!
Meanwhile,3 Body Problemcan be streamed on Netflix.
