Who would have guessed that the drama between Wendy Williams and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs would find its way into the headlines once again? These two have been wading through controversy for decades, and just when it seemed things couldn’t get more complicated, August 22, 2025, arrived. Diddy now finds himself in a tight spot, facing serious allegations. While he pleads not guilty, it looks like the turmoil is far from finished.

Wendy Williams and Diddy have a contentious history dating back to the ’90s, with the former frequently criticizing him on her radio show.

The tension between Diddy and Williams has been far from a walk in the park. It all reportedly began in the ‘90s when the latter took the mic on herHot 97radio show, consistently voicing her criticisms of Diddy. She even chronicled her thoughts in her bookWendy Williams: The Book, while closely following Diddy’s numerous legal troubles over the years.

WithDiddycurrently facing serious charges, including racketeering and s*x trafficking, the ghosts of his past are catching up with him like never before.

One of the roots of this drama stretches back to when Wendy Williams wasn’t shy about taking a swing at Diddy on herHot 97radio show. However, things took a turn in 1998 when she found herself ousted from the station, a move she believes Diddy had a hand in (viaUS Magazine).

But Williams isn’t one to stay down for long. She rebounded by launching her talk show,The Wendy Williams Show, in 2006, which became a platform for her to dive into Diddy’s various legal escapades. The talk show host claimed during her show,The Wendy Williams Experience, that she was almost ambushed by the girl group Total, signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. During one of the earlier episodes, she recounted (via US Magazine):

Once upon a time, there was a music mogul who sent his all-girl group to beat my a*s in front of the radio station. Fact!

Williams shared how she and her then-boyfriend, Kevin Hunter, found themselves in the crosshairs of Total,“I find this girl group, jump out of a gypsy cab, to come after me. To beat my a*s! For what?” she said.

Williams claimed Diddy sent his girl group, Total, to confront her outside the radio station.

In a 2013 interview withVlad TV, Williams subtly hinted at the circumstances surrounding her firing fromHot 97,hinting at the speculation regarding hip-hop artists’ s*xualities that was then considered taboo. She quipped:

There was a radio personality once upon a time and her name was Wendy Williams and she was practically burned at the stake for talking about such, and now it’s all come full circle.

In her 2004 book, Williams expressed resentment towards Diddy for the difficulties he caused her career.

It seems that the echoes of their turbulent history are louder than ever in light of recent events.

Her 2004 book,The Wendy Williams Experience, laid bare her feelings toward Diddy, expressing “a certain level of contempt for Puff” because of the difficulties he allegedly caused her career. According to US Magazine,Wendy Williamswrote:

The hell he put me through. I will never forget. But I don’t hate him.

The media personality-writer didn’t mince words when discussing a recently released security video that allegedly shows Diddy assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura:

You know how I feel about that? It is about time. To see this video on TV of [Cassie] getting pummeled… it was just horrific. But now you have to think, how many more times? How many people? How many more women? It’s just so horrible.

Diddy’s recent arrest in New York has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. He’s currentlybehind barsat the Metropolitan Detention Center, facing grave charges that include racketeering and s*x trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion. Although Diddy has pleaded not guilty, the road ahead looks anything but smooth. He’s had his bail denied twice and is now fighting to overturn that decision.
