With each passing season, showrunner Eric Kripke doesn’t shy away from taking things extra far in regards to the shock value inThe Boys, and season 4 might be the most extreme one yet. From an onscreen lobotomy to a human-centipede-inspired self-pleasure scene, Kripke isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to shocking the viewers with the penultimate season ofThe Boys.

However, one scene that many deemed too far is the cake-farting moment from this week’s episode,Dirty Business, but showrunner Kripke defended this scene, stressing it’s a real-life s-x fetish.
The Cake Farting Scene Is Inspired From a Real-Life Kink
After infiltrating Tek Knight’s home, Hughie comes across the character’s s-x dungeon and fans very quickly learn about his kinks, as he makes Hughie sit on a cake and fart in it. Reflecting on the kink, showrunnerEric Kripkerevealed that they came across“cake farting”while looking down a long list of various kinks, and found it perfect for the show.
He said (viaVariety):
No, that was all pretty much as scripted. We had our poor writers’ assistant do a long list of real kinks, because we were looking for some. And I remember reading down the list and I’m like, ‘What’s cake farting?’ And then they explained to me, and it’s a real thing — but don’t look it up. I just said, that’s incredible, we have to do that.
While it’s reasonable to see why some fans are repulsed by it, to Kripke,“it was a real natural tie-in to bring Ashley into it”, following her dom/sub tendencies.

Eric Kripke Will Not Hold Any Punches RegardingThe Boys’ Politics
Apart from the cake farting scene inDirty Business,The Boysseason 5 has garnered some criticism from certain viewers online, following its alignment with real-world politics. Reflecting on it, Eric Kripke clarified that While they didn’t initially intend to mirror real-world politics, he explained that it naturally played into it.

Moreover, hesharedthat they’re going to double down on it, stressing fans can decide for themselves if they want to continue tuning in with the show moving forward.
I’m just going to lean into it, and then the audience can sort of decide whether they want to watch or not… There’s just so few shows that can directly comment on the world we’re living in… We get to hold up a mirror as a fantasy genre show. But again, because we’re just like, we’re right there. I mean, it’s all in the original comic.

This isn’t the first time thatThe Boyscreator has fired back at the anti-woke crowd, as similar was the case earlier this season following the backlash againstFrenchie’s sexuality.
