Steve Carell – the only two words a project needs to verify it will be an undeniable success. Having appeared in countless films and TV shows, the man truly is the epitome of comedic genius. Sure, we love him in dramatic roles but it really is his comic timing that made us fall in love with him. Not only we fans, but his co-stars have time and again praised him for his ability to make others laugh and steal the spotlight anytime he’s in front of the camera.

Melora Hardin played one of Michael Scott’s most infuriating partners onThe Office, Jan, but we sure love the Boss Lady to this day. While she may not have been the best girlfriend, making Michael roleplay as a schoolgirl despite his discomfort, she sure was an unforgettable character. Needless to say, their relationship had the two actors spending a lot of time filming together and Melora Hardin absolutely loved every moment of that time, especially thanks to one of his many abilities.
Melora Hardin Loved How Steve Carell Could Improvise
Sometimes, improv doesn’t work too well. It might throw your co-stars off, leaving them confused about what to do next, spoiling the take entirely. That’s what usually happened withMelora Hardinwhenever she tried to twist a scene in her projects.
She joinedBrian BaumgartneronThe Office Deep Divepodcast where she explained how her tendency to improvise would leave her co-stars baffled. Then she metSteve Carellwho was so“playful”with her that not only did he approve the improvisation but also reciprocated with equal fervor.

Hardin stated on the podcast,
That always pisses me off so much because I’m always like, ‘Are you kidding me? We can’t do it differently and try new things?’…Steve was so ready with the bat to hit the ball whichever way it came. I had a great time working with him.

We can imagine how much fun it must be working with someone like Carell who always keeps you on your toes. And whileJohn Krasinskiadmitted that 90% ofThe Officewas scripted, we can’t help but wonder if the remaining 10 was Carell’s doing.
Steve Carell’s Other Co-stars Thought His Improvisation Was Sadistic
Time and again, the actors on the sitcom have sung praises of Carell. His ability to lighten up the set as well as be professional has always been commendable but there were times when he simply had too much fun torturing his co-stars with his skills.
There are many improvised moments on the show, courtesy of Carell, and sometimes, the co-actors cannot take it. For example,Angela Kinseystated on theOffice Ladiespodcast how Carell would use his improv skills to try and mess with them, trying to get them to break on camera.

“That’s the genius of Greg Daniels”: ‘The Office’ Used a Neat ‘Survivor’ Trick to Make its Most Uncomfortable Episode Featuring Steve Carell
Calling it all a little too sadistic, Kinsey explained,
I honestly think that Steve would drag things out like that to see when he could get all of us to break. He’s a little sadistic that way. He would be like, ‘Oh, you haven’t broken yet? How about this?

The Officeis certainly one of the most beloved shows of all time and we know exactly why. However, it’s behind-the-scenes stories like these ones that make us fall in love over and over again with it and honestly, we aren’t even complaining!
The Officeis available to watch on Peacock Premium.
