Taylor Sheridan has proven time and again that he is a force to reckon with. To get to watch the way this man’s mind works is a treat in itself which is clearly seen through his many projects likeYellowstoneandWind River. However, the one that stands out to us is the 2015 action thriller,Sicario, starring Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin. With three Academy Award nominations to its film,Sicarioquickly became a fan-favorite Taylor Sheridan project.

There is one scene that stands out in the film which surprisingly takes place in the beginning when FBI Special Agents raid a safe house only to find dozens and dozens of dead and decaying humans buried inside the walls. As it turns out, this wasn’t an entirely fictional concept he added to his script. In fact, it was all based on real-life events.
One of the Most Horrifying Scenes by Taylor Sheridan
Emily BluntandDaniel Kaluuya’s Kate and Reggie were all set to raid a Sonora Cartel safe house in Chandler, Arizona, but little did they know that they would be facing one of the worst sights of their entire professional lives. During their attack, Reggie is the first to notice a hole in the wall which shows a decaying corpse inside. He stated,“Woah…what the f-ck”and honestly? Same.
When the SWAT team broke down the wall further, they realized there were corpses all over, the sight and stench making them throw up. While the scene in itself is something that stays with the viewers for a long, long time, what’s even more terrifying is that it was based on real-life stories thatTaylor Sheridan,Sicario’s writer, had come across.

Investments and TV Shows That Made Taylor Sheridan $70 Million Rich in 2024: From Yellowstone to 6666 Ranch
In an interview withDeadline, Sheridan revealed thatSicario’s story was based on an actual drug war that had been going on at the border, which shockingly, was ignored by the media. Thus, he had an idea to explore that world in his own way and come up with something original.
They’re our closest neighbor who we’re so economically and culturally intertwined with, and yet we ignore it. I felt I could explore this world in a way that it had not been explored before with relation to the militarization of our police.

This meant that a ton of research had to be done before Sheridan could have a script ready. Somehow, this wasn’t as difficult as one would imagine. He borrowed a lot from real-life events, even the scene with the dead bodies in the wall, and cooked up something so horrifying yet ground-breaking which had the audience in a tight grasp. He stated, “I didn’t have to dig too deep to find information (in the research process).”
While the movie was“entirely an act of the imagination,”the violence was more or less rooted in reality.

All of the violence that you see was based on actual events, taken completely out of context and fictionalized, but bodies on bridges and bodies in walls, I didn’t make that up.
It really is a wonder how his mind works.
Taylor Sheridan Doesn’t Need to Understand the Bizarre Nature of His Scenes
NoSicariointerview is complete without someone mentioning the corpses at least once. Thus, when Sheridan sat down for a conversation withVarietyback in 2015, he was probably expecting the scene to come up sooner or later.
The interviewer wasted no time in bringing it up, rightly so. They stated that they couldn’t possibly wrap their head around“the concept of stuffing bodies into the walls of a house. Beyond just being an effective means of hiding them. It’s so arbitrary and bizarre.”

Arbitrary and bizarre seem like the perfect two words to describe the whole situation. Sheridan echoes the host’s statement about being unable to truly grasp the concept, however, he revealed that he doesn’t really care about wanting to understand it all.
As a writer and director, it is his job to show his audience something that will boggle their minds and we know he does exactly that a little too well. He stated,
I don’t understand it either. But there’s so much of what’s done that I don’t understand. And I don’t attempt to understand it. I just show it. I heard a story about someone who literally cut the face off of this man and sewed it on a soccer ball and kicked it down the street. How do you — there is no understanding that. But ignoring it isn’t going to help.
On Rotten Tomatoes,Sicariohas a rating of 92% from the critics whereas the audience has awarded it 85% out of a total of 50K+ ratings. Definitely a win in our book!
Sicariois available to watch on Prime Video.
