Even though there were high expectations for the game,Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2has absolutely smashed them all since its release while bringing newcomers to the brutal setting that is the40kuniverse.

Not only is the title a graphical marvel, but its design philosophy perfectly recreates theWarhammer 40kuniverse. Although developer Saber Interactive has done an incredible job, it seems like its magnum opus is soon going to face the same phenomenon that ripped apartDragon Ball: Sparking Zero.
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2is Struggling to Retain Players
In the last couple of months,Saber has brought tons of new additions to the gameand has promised to add new updates, enemies, and weapons to wreak havoc in upcoming seasons. However, the game’s live service model hasn’t been able to retain players to keep returning to the title.
According to data fromSteamDB, theSpace Marinesequel is currently averaging around 12,000 players. That’s an impressive number, but it’s just 5% of the game’s all-time peak of 225,000 players after its initial debut. This isn’t a recent problem either, as it’s been noted that the game’s player base slumped down mere weeks after release.

‘Secret Level’ Site Immediately Deletes Screenshots from Upcoming Space Marine 2 Episode
Space Marine 2proved to be a breakout successfor theWarhammerfranchise, so it’s shocking that its player base is diminishing at such a rate. However, there are a number of reasons behind this trend. Due to the game’s incredible story, many purchased it for the sole purpose of adventuring through the campaign mode, considering the title’s multiplayer an added bonus.
Many in the community have also complained about not being able to connect to the game’s server, alongside gameplay balance, difficulty playing games, and dealing with high ping. These are the same exact reasonsthat killed Bandai Namco’sSparking Zero, even though it was a success upon its release.

However, it’s not all that bad for fans of the game. There’s a plethora of free content coming to the game next year, which will most likely bring back players. Unlike its competition, Saber knows how to craft a game, and it wouldn’t let its biggest hit just roll over and die like that.
