Today has low key been a big day for new music releases. While Taylor Swift’s latest release might be in the rotation for many, and others might be still holding out that Kanye West will releaseDonda(spoiler alert: he won’t), the rapper Logic also released what is planned to be his final project today,No Pressure. And if you’re wondering why the heck a video game website is talking about music, well, a rather iconic video game character actually made his way onto the new album.
The first track on Logic’sNo Pressure, which is the title track, features a surprising cameo from none other than Solid Snake himself. Yes, David Hayter, the legendary voice actor who long played both Snake and Big Boss in theMetal Gear Solidsaga, lent his voice for the song in which he was reprising his role of Snake.
Hayter’s part on the song begins with the iconic Codec ringing sound effect fromMetal Gear Solidplaying before Snake appears and says, “Hey Logic, Snake here. I hear you’re planning world domination through a new form of Metal Gear. Well listen to me - it won’t work.” There’s really no thematic reason (at least it seems) for Snake to appear on the song other than the fact that it’s just a pretty dang cool thing that Logic wanted to do.
Logic has long been very open about his love for video games and even had acameo role in this year’s release ofThe Last of Us Part II. The now-retired rapper is planning to incorporate video games even more into the next chapter of his life, which will be taking place on Twitch. The streaming platform announced earlier this week that it hadsigned an exclusivity deal with Logicworth at least seven figures. In a new stream on his channel last night, Logic said some of the initial games he’s planning to play on stream includeThe Last of Us Part IIand potentiallyGhost of Tsushima.
You can check outNo Pressuredown on Spotify below if you’d like to hear Snake’s part on the album. Also,No Pressureas a whole is pretty dang good. As someone who is a pretty big fan of Logic, this is his best release of the past few years. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.
