Two gods stuck in the Construct and a cycle of neverending violence against one another. Will you slay Her, leave together, or be doomed to an eternity of forgetting?

As a story withmultiple branching paths,Slay the Princessis chock-full of different endings you could end up with based on your decisions. These endings can happen prematurely (before the endgame) or during the endgame when you deliver all five vessels to the Shifting Mound.

Outer Wilds In Stars and Time The Forgotten City

Since the release of thePristine Cut update,Slay the Princesshas an additional ending, totalingseven main endingsyou can find in the game.

Thispsychological horrorisn’t scary just because of the cheap scares but also exploresexistential terror and the cycle of violence.

10 Best Games With Time Loops

Games like In Stars and Time and Outer Wilds best exemplify the classic time loop trope.

7The “Good” Ending

You Did It! You Saved Everyone!

The “Good” ending can be achieved ifyou do exactly as the Narrator says:Slay the Princess and accept your reward of eternal “paradise,“which is just total nothingness.

To achieve this ending, you muststeel your nervesandslay the princesswithout any hesitation on the first loop in Chapter 1, and leave the basement, confident that she’s dead.

When the narrator rewards you with a neverending void, you decide that you’re okay with this, and you’re rewarded with a prematurely ended game.

It’s theeasiest and least interesting ending, and the creators know it, as they give you a poorly drawn ending card for “saving the world.” If anything, this is ajoke endingwhere the devs have anticipated that someone would want to just get it over with.

6Just As You Were Once Nothing

Walk Away Into Oblivion

In contrast to the “good” ending, this can be considered the"worst” endingprecisely because it damns both you and the Princess into an incomplete existence, where both of you fade into nothingness.

This is achieved ifyou walk away from the cabin in Chapters 2 and 3 in each loop, denying the Shifting Mound a vessel before entering the Long Quiet.

slaytheprincess-036

Since walking away in Chapter 1 throws you into the Strange path, you must first reach Chapter 2, then continuously refuse to go to the cabin. Giving the Shifting Mound a vessel at any point willlock you outof this ending, forcing you to start over.

The achievements are also titled after thefive stages of grief, as the Shifting Mound begins to understand that there is nothing She can do to stop you from dooming you both to nothingness.

5There Are No Endings

Become As Gods

We approach the endgame, and after your somber conversation with the Echo, you approach the Shifting Mound as gods andbegin your final confrontation.

The Shifting Mound desires to leave the Construct that the two of you are trapped in. You take her hand, collapsing the Construct, leaving the two of you free to explore the infinite universe. You and she become the new gods of a new world.

This ending can be achieved byplaying the game normally up to the end and accepting her offer to leave the Construct together, ending this universe and starting a new one, again and again, and again…

While this might seem like a more peaceful ending, you are both dooming infinite worlds to oblivion. Unless you wholeheartedly agree with the Princess and don’t want to argue your own perspective, this isn’t a great ending for you.

4A New And Unending Dawn

Slay Her Once And For All

If you refuse the Shifting Mound’s proposal, thenyou’ll engage in a final “boss fight,“where the god of change and truth summons the five vessels you’ve brought Her to convince you of her perspective, all the while refusing to see yours. The Voice of the Hero appears and helps you return to the cabin, to see the Princess as you first met her.

Inside the cabin is your implement, the Pristine Blade. You slay the Princess, and she tells you she’s always loved you before disappearing for good.

You awaken to your godly potential and shatter the Construct all by yourself. But you won’t be alone in this world you’ve saved, as all the Voices from the previous loops return. All that’s left is to figure out what to do next.

Alternatively, the ending “A new and unending dawn, and everybody hates you” can be achieved ifyou’re cruel to your Voices, telling them that they’re going to die after delivering a vessel in the Long Quiet. They’re angry about how you treated them, so they promise to make your newfound godhood as unpleasant as possible.

One could consider this a somewhat good ending. Slaying the Princess was indeed the job description, and the Narrator wasn’t lying either–you actually savedthis reality. With your ascension to godhood, you now have the power to shape it in a way that will feel right.

If everybody hates you, however, then you might eventually be driven mad by the many angry voices pestering you in your head for the remainder of your eternal godhood. Imagine being stuck with the Voice of the Smitten or Contrarian for eternity.

3You’re On A Path In The Woods…

Once More, From The Beginning

You enter the cabin and take your implement, intent on slaying the Princess for the last time. However, she asks if you could talk, and you sit with her.

She explains that you have the power to make her reset everything, thereby sparing the world for at least one more loop. You either forget everything, or you slay her.

If you choose toforget everything, the Princess will take the blade from you and slay you, starting the game all over again. Everything goes dark, and you die. You’re on a path in the woods…

Choosing this ending will spare the world from destruction, butyou and the Princess will continue to be trapped in this endless cycle of violence, starting fresh with each loop. It’s a tragic story of two lovers who will never get to realize the full potential of their romance.

2Your New World

In your argument with the Shifting Mound, you remind her that every single encounter you’ve had has ended unpleasantly or in violence.

She grows angry and physically fights you, but she is no match for you. You become a true god and defeat her, slaying her once and for all and shattering the Construct all on your own.

This ending isa new addition to the Pristine Cut update. This ending becomes available if youdeliver vessels to the Shifting Mound through violent means, whether you kill the vessel or cause them to distort (like the Deconstructed Damsel).

Once the Shifting Mound poses her arguments through those vessels, choosing thered optionevery time will make this ending available.

Slaying the Shifting Mound rewards you with a new world for you to shape as its new god. But you are alone, as none of your Voices return to you from the Construct, not even the Hero. It’s a bittersweet ending for a lone god of a world that will never know your sacrifice.

1And? What Happens Next?

Leave With Her

Instead of taking the blade, you enter the basement without it.There’s no implement to slay her with, and the only way to end this is toleave with Her.As you take her hand, the Voice of the Hero will opt to stay in the Construct, hoping he might search for the other voices.

You and the Princess leave the basement without any problems, but the Princess is nervous, uncertain of the completely new futureahead of you both. You open the door together and step out into the world as mortals.

Alternatively, you can leave the cabin with the Stranger ifthey are the first vessel you bring to the Shifting Mound. The Voice of the Hero will also be accompanied by the Voice of the Contrarian, so at least they’ll have each other while you and the Princess live your lives outside the Construct.

This is perhaps the best ending of the game. Not only do you and the Princess get to fully realize your romance, but you also learn the truth and still choose to shed your godhood to live in the world either of you could have ended.
