Selena Gomez’s past with Justin Bieber has divided the Internet for quite some time now. While some are on her side, others are #TeamHaileyBieber. As it turns out, actress Karla Sofía Gascón might be on the latter team as well. She is the first openly-transgender actress to be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, but her triumph has been clouded by a series of insensitive and hateful tweets that have recently resurfaced on the social media platform, X.

While fans of the industry are calling for the Academy to disqualify her from the awards, another alleged tweet has been unearthed in which Karla Sofía Gascón had apparently come for none other than herEmilia Pérezco-star, Selena Gomez.

She went on to add that people were sending her death threats, abuses, insults, and harassing her“to the point of exhaustion.”Gascón took the step of deactivating her account to protect her daughter who she madly loves.
The actress continued to clarify her stance stating,

I have defended each and every one of the minorities in this world and supported any event against racism, freedom of religion or homophobia, in the same way that I have criticized the hypocrisy that underlies them, because the first thing I am self-critical of is myself.
She apologized“if anyone has ever felt offended”at her words and chalked it up to being a human being who has made mistakes in the past and continues to learn from them.
Her apology, which THR translated from Spanish, read,
Perhaps my words are not correct, many times due to ignorance or pure mistake. I apologize again if anyone has ever felt offended or in the future.I am a human being who also made, makes and will make mistakes from which I will learn. I am not perfect. Taking my words out of context or manipulating them to hurt me is something I am not responsible for.
Gascón added that while she is answerable for her actions, she isn’t responsible for how others interpret her. “The more you attempt to sink me, the stronger it will make me. The greater the victory will be,”was how she ended her statement, making it clear that she wasn’t going to let this controversy get to her.
