We are now less than 15 days away from the release ofElden Ring’sShadow of the ErdtreeDLC, and fans are eating up whatever information they receive. This could be big reveals, such as the kinds of weapons we’ll be getting, or even minute details, such as certain control changes.
FromSoftware titles are always packed with a ton of content, which is why the studio is so loved by its fans. Hidetaka Miyazaki never leaves the player feeling like they paid for less, despite always wanting more. We now know how much space you will need to keep on your system for the DLC.
Shadow of the Erdtree Requires Significant Space on Your Hard Disk
As games have gotten more complex and grand in scale, they have also increased significantly in the amount of storage space they require. Gone are the days when games were just a couple of gigabytes. Now, it’s not uncommon for titles to go into triple digits regarding storage requirements.

While theElden RingDLC is not as massive, it will clock in at 16.5 GB. That may not seem like a large number, especially when you consider games likeRed Dead Redemption 2are over 100 GB, but it’s still a fair bit of space gamers will have to clear on their hard drives to play the title.

It should also be noted that a DLC is taking up as much, if not more, space than many games on the market. FromSoftware’s ownSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceis just 12.5 GB. The largest file size for any FromSoftware title is for theDemon’s Soulsremake at 66 GB. This makes sense as it was intended for a next-generation console.
Miyazaki has previously alluded toShadow of the Erdtreebeing the largest expansion. He compared the size of the map to the starting area of Limgrave with regards to size, but we can assume there is a fair bit more to do when we start exploring the dungeons and going underground.
Elden Ring DLC Brings Entirely New Mechanics to the Game
The expansion will bring a plethora of new spells and weapons that are sure to shake things up in the Land of Shadow. One of the most notable additions is the newhand-to-hand combat mechanic known as the Dry Leaf Arts. We saw this in the first trailer for the expansion, where one player landed consecutive kicks while in the air.

The game is adding other new weapons as well, which should increase combat opportunities. Throwing weapons are coming back in a big way, transcending their role as mere consumables and becoming a weapon class on their own. We also have armaments such as double swords for rapid movement and attacks.
New magic will be added for those with mage builds, with the trailer showing off what appears to be some new instances of gravity magic as well as some that may be a new type of magic altogether. All in all, there’s a lot of new stuff coming with the expansion, which warrants its large file size.
