Oshi No KoAnime’s premiere in 2023 took the anime world by storm, a visually stunning beginning that surprises you with every scene. For a few weeks after the first episode was released, it was all the fandom could talk about. The dark twist in the episode wasn’t only unexpected but uncomfortable to sit through. Aqua and Ruby underwent immense growth as they tried to lead a normal life after that tragic incident they experienced as toddlers.

Aqua was entrenched with the idea of revenge and was the central focus of the story. Whereas Ruby was pushed to the sidelines and mostly behaved like a ‘normal’ schoolgirl, which paled her character in comparison to Aqua’s. With season 2 of the anime, the situation has turned around as we see glimpses of the dark secrets that Ruby holds.

The art style in the manga is beautiful to look at, which is also true for the anime. Even with the vibrant colors, the gloom and darkness get through. Almost every episode in the series ends with a cliffhanger. Still, they don’t feel forced or repetitive. The immersion that the audience experiences with the episode gets interrupted as soon as the ending sequence plays.

The type of direction that incorporates the ending and opening into the narrative sets the mood, settles it, and then disrupts it, accounting for an interesting experience. The anime adaptation ofOshi No Kois the perfect explanation of how anime can enrich the subject matter from the source material.Oshi No KoAnime does it with dramatic transformations and portrayal of the internal conflict that the characters experience.
With that, the second season is packed with spectacular scenes in the Tokyo Blade Arc. However, there’s one scene featuring Ruby that subtly foreshadows an important storyline. Returning to the town where she spent the final moments of her previous life evokes some poignant emotions in her. While Aqua was still the main focus during the visit, Ruby shows signs of sadness during the shooting sequence.

The anime brought Ruby’s internal turmoil to the forefront. This also happened when Ruby went to visit Aqua during his practice but couldn’t find him. Such scenes show that the makers are focusing on the bigger picture as they incorporate small hints of what Ruby’s character arc is going to be like.
Season 2 sets up Ruby’s Character Arc
Ruby’s visit to the grave and her finding out about Gorou’s death are some explicit signs that she’s going to experience a turning point or perhaps she has already experienced it. Her motives have finally aligned with Aqua. Just like him, she seeks the man who killed Ai. Up until now, Ruby was living her dream of becoming an idol.

While Aqua was experiencing grave emotions, Ruby was mostly seen having fun or portrayed as an unserious character. Seeing the glimpses of a new side to her is exciting. No one besides her is aware of the changes she’s undergoing. It would be interesting to see how she carries out her revenge plan, as opposed to Aqua’s meticulous planning.
