Amazon Prime recently released the much-awaited Samaritan movie, which featured Sylvester Stallone in asuperherorole. The live-action adaptation of the 2014 graphic novel tells the story of superpowered twin brothers - Samaritan and Nemesis (Joe Smith).
The movie starts with a flashback where we learn about a battle between the twin brothers that happened 25 years ago. Samaritan - the good guy and the city’s savior - had to face his brother, Nemesis, who turned to the dark side. Nemesis and Samaritan were invincible, so the “bad twin” forged a deadly hammer to kill his brother.

Nemesis planted bombs on the city’s power grid to create chaos, but fortunately, Samaritan arrived right on time to stop his brother. An intense battle takes place between the twins, and everyone in the city believes they both lost their lives in an explosion that night. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. Apparently, Nemesis wasn’t completely evil, and he simply had a different perspective on things. While Samaritan fought to maintain law and order, his twin brother hated the system that was feeding the rich after snatching from the poor.
Nemesis believed it was necessary to take control of the city, even if he had to cross the line between good and evil. Obviously, Samaritan disagreed with Nemesis' methods and fought him several times. Eventually, Nemesis decides to confront his brother and lays a trap for Samaritan – No. He didn’t actually want to create chaos in the city, and the rumor about bombs was only to bring out Samaritan in the open.
Samaritan gets the upper hand in the fight but decides to spare his brother. However, the good guy fell into the fire and died before Nemesis. It’s clear that Nemesis blamed his rebellious nature for Samaritan’s death, so he stays in hiding for the next 25 years. Of course, it was too late to fix the harm he had done, so he spent several years fixing broken things to find comfort.
Sam, the 13-year-old kid obsessed with Samaritan, finds out that Joe Smith has superpowers, and he instantly jumps to the conclusion that Joe is Samaritan. The kid thinks that Samaritan saved the city from Nemesis 25 years ago, and now he must return to save these people again.
Cyrus, on the other hand, believes that Nemesis was the hero as he stood up for the poor. Now, he wants to complete Nemesis' plan of taking down the power grid, but things don’t go his way as he finds his beloved hero (Nemesis) standing against him.
“You keep calling me the good guy. I’m not the good guy. I’m the bad guy!“says Nemesis while fighting Cyrus. The good twin (Samaritan) probably would have spared Cyrus, but Nemesis chose to throw the guy into the fire. So, even though Joe didn’t want to hurt anyone and has changed over the years, he didn’t exactly transition into a “good guy.”
