Stellar Blade, the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive from Shift Up, is one of the highly anticipated titles releasing this month. While fans are excited, the game has been criticized for the portrayal of its protagonist, Eve, with many saying the character is sexualized by the design and jiggle physics.

This has led to the creative director of the game, Kim Hyung-tae, clarifying things about the game and Eve’s portrayal, saying that this was intentional and to cater to the fans. But the controversy hasn’t slowed down, and now the fans have also come in support of Kim Hyung-tae.

He acknowledged that he is aware that in the West, the characters in games should show realistic appearances in multiple ways, and there are several issues involved, such as gender, race, and diversity. He lastly added thatStellar Bladeis“only entertainment and a cultural product,”and he wants it to be viewed like one.
HE KNOWS! THANK GOD 🤣!!! Realism shouldn’t even be a huge standard when designing characters. Just make what appeals to you and your audience. Never cater to posers! Kim Hyung Tae is going to be the pioneer of bringing creative freedom back! Fuck censorship.#StellarBladehttps://t.co/z7FtpgYc0K

Fans have now come out in support of director Kim Hyung-tae’s comments, taking to social media platforms and online forums to show their support. A user on theNeoGAF forumsaid Western developers need to pay attention to this and added,“Japan/Asia has the right idea; not everything has to be photo-realistic. Fans appreciated the developers, saying that they were well aware of what they were doing and that they agreed with Kim Hyung-tae’s statement. A fan said,“sounds to me like he is basically saying‘Chill out; it’s just a videogame’, which seems like the appropriate response.”Players have also said that the character is based on a real person, and there is no need for the developers to explain.
Stellar Blade Has Been Getting Bashed Left and Right
Despite the clarifications from the developer,Stellar Bladehas been making headlines and is criticized by both gamers and critics. Gamers have said that the game relies more on the character’s portrayal and less on actual gameplay.
Even if that’s not what the majority is saying about the game, it isn’t really helping the game escape the backlash. IGN France also called out the game on Eve’s portrayal, saying that Eve inStellar Bladeseems to be designed by a person who has never seen a woman.

However, the outlet later removed that comment and released a statement apologizing to Shift Up, but still, the controversy continues. It has also been said that the game is sexist and sets unrealistic standards for women, and players who are genuinely looking forward to the game are worried that it may be review-bombed.
