Like previous entries into the franchise,Assassin’s CreedShadowsis going to be a mystical blend of historical fiction and science fiction.

The series has always embraced the weird, with superpowers, ancient alien civilizations, and teleportation. As we anticipate the release of the latest instalment, however, fans are wondering if the game will need to bring back some of the most intriguing (and weirdest) lore elements.
Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows Bringing Back the Isu?
The ongoing speculation was highlighted by one Redditor who wondered how heavily Isu lore would be tied into the upcoming release.
In the post, OP questions the likelihood of the new protagonists, Yasuke and Naoe, being connected to the Isu, a highly advanced precursor civilization in the franchise’s universe that is connected to the origins of the Animus.

OP notes that the leads in the last three games were either part Isu or reincarnations of them and points out that recent games have included elements like teleportation and superpowers.

Essentially, Ubisoft has beenpushing Isu lore to the forefront of the storylinein recent franchise entries, like inMirage.
This is much to OP’s enjoyment though, as the weirder the story gets, the more interested they become. The Fate ofAtlantisDLC forOdysseyand the Asgard/Havi zones inValhallaare examples of this enjoyable weirdness.

The Possibility of Isu Lore Returning
When OP mentioned that wild speculation was welcome in the discussion, people didn’t hold back. It looks like a lot more people are interested in the Isu lore than initially thought.
One commenter speculates that it’s always possible for Isu lore to reappear in the storyline, so long as it’s well-written.

For example, the Brotherhood could spread to Japan throughACShadows’Yasuke from Africa, and Japan, being uncharted territory in the franchise, could hold much more information about the Isu. This would nicely tie in two aspects of the story.
A reply argues that the Isu was a major focus inValhalla, and it wouldn’t make sense for the series to abandon this storyline now.

The initial commenter does mention that their speculation is largely driven by their desire to see more of the Isu and lost civilizations. A game entirely focused on the highly advanced civilization would certainly be interesting to see.
A reply to OP offers a different perspective, hoping thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowsdoesn’t cover Isu lore.
The Ezio trilogy introduced the Isu and used them sparingly and maintained a mysterious tone.Assassin’s Creed Shadowstakes place much after the trilogy.
There’s a lot of interest in the Isu clearly, and Ubisoft will need to decide whether it wants to highlight the concept or let it stay mysterious and vague in the background of a much grander scheme.
