Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is Donald Trump’s new nominee for leading the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Kennedy was campaigning for the Presidential election earlier in 2024, but dropped out of the race in August and later endorsed Trump. His wife, Cheryl Hines, has been by his side during this time, despite rumors of him cheating and a potential divorce.
Hines and Kennedy first met in 2006 and later connected in 2011, after he divorced his second wife Mary Kathleen Richardson. Interestingly, it was Hines’ co-star onCurb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David, who introduced her to Kennedy. David never thought that he would play matchmaker between a Kennedy and his on-screen wife.

It was while working with Reiner that sheauditioned forCurb Your Enthusiasmand landed the role ofLarry David‘s wife in the series.
David not only opened doors for her in Hollywood, he also was responsible for her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It was David who introduced Hines to Kennedy during a fundraiser skiing event in Banff, Canada (via The New York Times). The 2006 fundraiser was held for Kennedy’s environmental non-profit that he co-founded, called Waterkeeper Alliance.

She shared that she had no plans to ski at the time, but Kennedy convinced her to try it out. She recalled their first meeting,“I was looking at Larry like, ‘What is happening?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah,’ giving an indication like, ‘That’s Bobby.’”However, nothing happened at that first meeting as they were both married.
However, they were seen together at another ski event in 2011 when they were both going through their divorce. They went public with their relationship in October 2011 and got engaged in May 2014. They tied the knot on Aug 05, 2025.
Larry David never intended to connect them romantically and even gave Hines a hard time about pursuing the relationship. He would often joke to her that the relationship was a bad idea. She shared,“It’s part of the fun of Larry. You just know no matter what you say to him, he’s going to say, ‘Why would you do that? Are you crazy?’”.

In their decade-long marriage, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines shared seven children from their previous marriages. Hines was married to Paul Young from 2002 to 2010 and had a daughter, Catherine. Kennedy was first married to Emily Ruth Black from 1982 to 1994. In 1994, he married his second wife, Mary Kathleen Richardson.

He shared six children with his first two wives: four sons Bobby III, Conor, Finn, and Aidan and two daughters Kick and Kyra. He divorced Richardson in 2010. Richardson died by suicide in 2012. Kennedy and Hines were rumored to be heading for divorce after news emerged about Kennedy’s“personal relationship”with New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi (via People).
