Riot Gameshas officially announced the opening ceremony performers for theLeague of LegendsWorld Championship 2022. Four select artists will take the stage at Chase Center in San Francisco, California to kick off the finals.
Anticipation has been high forWorlds 2022. This year’s Worlds Anthem,STAR WALKIN', was created by hip hop and rap artist Lil Nas X. Since its release last month, the song has accumulated more than 70 million streams on Spotify and more than 21 million views for the music video on YouTube. With one week until finals, Riot Games has revealed the artists who will entertain masses of League of Legends fans in the arena and around the world.

The four Opening Ceremony performers will be Lil Nas X, Edda Hayes, Louis Leibfried, and Jackson Wang. It is no surprise that Lil Nas X, who also collaborated with Riot Games to produce a Prestige Empyrean skin forK’sante, would perform STAR WALKIN' at Worlds. Fans might also recognize artists Hayes and Leibfried from their collaboration onThe Call, a four-minute song and cinematic promoting Season 2022. The two are expected to perform The Call live at Worlds.
The reveal of Wang as an opening ceremony performer has pleased many, setting off rows of fire emojis in reply to the social media announcement. A memorandum titledUrgent Company Wide Message from the Presidentwas shared on Twitter by the official League of Legends account. The message, signed by Lil Nas X as President of League of Legends, points out that the opening ceremony “needed more fire,” requiring the services of a “consultant” — namely, Wang. The Hong Kong artist is a member of K-pop group Got7 and the music company 88rising. In 2019, Wang’s first solo album, Mirrors, reached the number 32 spot on the Billboard 200.
Riot Games has been finding massive success in music this year, promoting tracks for both League of Legends andValorant. This summer, Riot Games released aStar Guardian-themed Sessions album, which is a collection of copyright-free songs for content creators. For 2022 Valorant Champions, Riot Games featured singer Ashnikko in the tournament’s anthem, Fire Again.
Gamers hoping to snag last-minute tickets to Worlds have limited options. Official tickets for the event, which were exclusively available on Ticketmaster, are sold out. On other sites, scalpers are reselling tickets for upwards of $500.
