According toCapcom’s “platinum titles,“ÂResident Evil 7: Biohazardhas climbed the list to become their second best selling game of all-time, landing belowMonster Hunter: Worldwith 7.9 million units sold. While it may not ever surpassÂMonster Hunter’s daunting 16.1 million sales, it’s impressive that a horror game was able to sell nearly 8 million copies because they often timeshave a hard time being made and reaching mass appeal. It’s not a total surprise thatResident Evil 7was able to do so well, though. Out of the other nine entries on the platinum titles list, four of them areResident EvilÂgames. In fact, numbers two, three, four, and five are all games from the franchise, each selling at least 7 million units despite some of them receivingmixedreviews.
Take all those numbers with a grain of salt though. The platinum titles list doesn’t count different ports as the same game. This means that the recent Switch port ofÂResident Evil 4is counted as a separate game as the PS2 version. As manyResident Evilgames have been ported to multiple different consoles, the numbers on the platinum titles list aren’t entirely accurate.
TheÂResident Evilseries is massively popular and the hype surrounding the upcomingResident Evil: Villagemeans that it’s unclear how longÂResident Evil 7Âwill be sitting in the top slot for the series. Additionally, therumoredÂResident Evil 4remakewould also sell extremely well due to the high demand for the game. Even though it didn’t make the platinum titles list due to itsmany releases and ports,ÂResident Evil 4isestimated to have sold at least 8 million units.
