Everyone knows something aboutThe Legend of Zelda, even if they aren’t fans of the franchise. But something you might not be too familiar with is how wildly expensive the first copy of the 1987 NES game, in sealed condition, can actually fetch. We aren’t just talking a few hundred dollars here either.

One very lucky 22-year-old man called Kiro from California almost sold his copy for a mere $17k on eBay but, thankfully, was contacted by an in-the-know collector, who said his very rare Zelda game was worth a hell of a lot more than he initially thought.

Has Larian Studios inserted a clever reference to the foul-mouthed Hell’s Kitchen chef Gordon Ramsay into Baldur’s Gate 3?

We all love a deal, but one random ebayer almost got the deal of their life when they bought a super rare 1987 Legend of Zelda game from Kiro who didn’t have a clue that the game, which had been in his family for almost four decades, was worth as much as it was. Initially setting the price at $17,000, after doing some basic searching on how much it could go for, the sealed vintage NES copy was, unsurprisingly, snapped up in moments.

According to thestory by CNBC, Kiro was inundated with bids after it sold and even had one person wanting to drive all the way to him to offer $30,000 for it. After becoming overwhelmed with offers, Kiro decided to cancel the entire selling process on eBay, realizing that after all the interest, maybe he could get even more money for it. This is when he was contacted by a private collector who told Kiro that his sealed Legend of Zelda game was from the game’s first production and that his life was going to change.

A few weeks later, Kira was flown to Florida to get the game graded, and then he made his way to Texas to the world-renowned auction house, Heritage Auctions. Although Kiro says he’s “grateful for anything” when it comes to how much it will go for, he’s already got it all figured out - “I will definitely not be spending it right away. It’ll go into building long-term wealth for myself and my family”.

“It’s really kind of a miracle. Something in me told me to put it up that night. And within those few minutes of getting sold, I got connected to the right person. I feel like without that guidance, I would have been somewhat lost” said Kiro.

Thelisting auction endedlast Friday, 23rd February although, unfortunately, you have to be a member to see the winning price, but if it’s anything like the 1987 The Legend of Zelda NES cartridge thatsold in 2021for $870,000, we are pretty confident that Kiro’s pockets are stacked full right now.
