PS4 players will have to wait a little longer, but Eric Myers, the “Quantum Ranger”, is now playable for the Switch, Xbox One, and PC versions ofPower Ranger: Battle for the Grid. The new playable character arrives alongside a substantial patch for the game, the full details of which are availablehere. You can see the Quantum Ranger’s character trailer below.
Each time I write about this game I feel like I have to apologize for itssub-par state at release. It sounded bad, looked bad, and had a small roster. LikeNo Man’sSkyand other post-launch video game success stories, though, I think this game has come a long way since its poor initial release. I mean, sure, this game will never have AAA graphics. However, the people building itdounderstand what it takes to make an exciting and fun fighting game, and they have continued to make improvements toPR:BFTG’s presentation, mechanics, and cast of playable characters.
Eric Myers is the latest addition to that cast of characters, and he’s a pretty unique and cool one. As the name “Quantum Ranger” would suggest, there’s a mind-bending quality to Myers’s combos. He can teleport around the screen, and his blaster fires some bizarre form of energy. For his super, he transforms that blaster into a lightsaber, providing him with access to new combos and more damage. All around, he just looks like a really fun character to use.
The Quantum Ranger is voiced by Dan Southworth, the actor who originally played him in theTime ForceTV series. However, you might recognize Southworth from a more recent voice-acting role: he was Vergil inDevil May Cry 5(andDMC 3andMarvel vs.Capcom 3).
The patch 1.6 brings an interesting change to the mechanics ofPR:BFTG. Every character can now use normal attacks to continue combos “Off the Ground,” which will surely add to the complexity and depth of the game. Combo routes in this game were already pretty great, but adding more options like this will help.
The Quantum Ranger costs $5.99 by himself. However, you can purchase him as part of the “Season Two Pass,” which includes Anubis “Doggie” Kruger and Dai Shi. The season pass will run you $14.99.
