Artazon is one of the first cities players can travel to once they finish the beginning section of the game. Leaving the school to the east and following the path through the rocky section of Area 3 will lead players to Artazon. Gyms can be completed in any order inPokemon Scarlet & Violet, and the Artazon gym is low enough in level to be a very doable first gym for many players.

Grass Gym Leader Brassius

After completing your test, returning to the gymwill allow you to begin yourbattle with the Gym leader, Brassius. Now that the test is complete, you can leave the town or visit a local Pokémon Center before the fight with Brassius. Should you wish tosave before the battle, do sobefore talking to the attendantbehind the desk.

Petilil - Level 16

Petilil is Brassius' first Pokémon and ispurely a grass type, makingFire, Ice, Poison, Flying, or Bug types your best bet. At this level, Petilil will have lower defensive stats, and should your Pokémon be super effective, you can make quick work of this Pokémon. Should your Pokémon be super effective to grass, you don’t have to worry aboutreceiving any substantial damagein this short fight.

Smoliv - Level 16

Smoliv is a dual type of Grass and Normal. If your Pokémon did quick work of Petilil, there should belittle to no need to switch out Pokémon for this fight. With Smoliv’s Normal type, it isalso weak to fighting-typeattacks should you have a good fighting-type Pokémon you want to throw into battle.

Sudowoodo - Level 17

Sudowoodo is naturally a rock-typePokémon, despite its tree-like appearance. In its first turn, it willTerastallize into a grass type. For this battle, it isbest to use Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, or Bug types, as they are super effective to Grass-types. Be sure to use a move that is super effective to Grass and not Rock, as Sudowoodo will be a Rock-type when you select and attack and Grass-type when the attack hits. It is also bestnot to use Water, Rock, or Ground-type Pokémonas Grass is super effective for them.

Upon beating Brassius, players will be rewarded with TM 020 Trailblazer. This is agrass-type attackthatincreases the user’s speed. This attack has a power of 50, an accuracy of 100, and a PP of 20.
