Updated on June 28, 2025 by Madeline Virtue:With so many Ice-Type Pokemon in the Paldea Pokedex, there are plenty to choose from when it comes to determining the best — so we’ve revisited this list with five more amazing Ice-Type Pokemon to consider if you’re wanting to include one in your team.

Crabominable in the Pokémon anime.

15Crabominable

Originally from the Alola region, Crabominable makes a return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It evolves from its pre-evolution Crabrawler when exposed to an Ice Stone, and has the useful Ability Iron Fist which powers up its plethora of punching attacks that it has access to.

When it comes to base stats, Attack is its highest by a large margin. Unfortunately, the lack of good Speed makes it hard for Crabominable to find a solid place in many team makeups despite its cool design and great move pool.

Frosmoth in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

14Frosmoth

The frost moth Pokémon, Frosmoth was introduced in Gen VIII and is absolutely gorgeous. Its pre-evolution Snom is a cutie, so it’s no difficult feat to meet the affection requirements for evolution.

Frosmoth suffers from the traditionally low base stat total typical of Bug-Types, which can make it difficult to use in competitive play. However, its high Special Attack stat, Ice Scales Hidden Ability, and a plethora of status moves can be an asset in double battles.

Eiscue in the Pokémon anime.

A penguin-inspired Pokémon was sure to be an instant classic, but it’s safe to say that Eiscue is a fan favorite. Its adorable Ice Face is both an amazing design element and a useful ability that protects it from a single hit of damage.

Eiscue is best utilized competitively in double battles on a Snowscape team. If you’re able to set up the Snow weather effect, Eiscue’s Ice Face will regenerate and protect it once more. This can be effective in controlling damage reduction.

ice beartic pokemon scarlet & violet

To start our list we have Beartic, humble Beartic has really strong Attack stats that benefit the most fromevolving Cubchoo at Level 37. Found all throughout the Glaseado Mountain region this pure Ice-Type Pokémon performs admirably in its Snow weather condition.

Due to its high attack stat, players would do really well with the Egg moveFocus Punch.Otherwise, sticking to the classic Blizzard is a good play too.

Hisuian Avalugg in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Avalugg is a gentle giant of a Pokémon who got a regional variant in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that we will be happy to see make a return with the Pokémon HOME update. Regardless of form, Avalugg has high Defense and Attack and makes for a great physical wall in competitive play.

Moves like Icicle Crash, Recover, and Snowscape are staples in a highly competitive Avalugg’s moveset, especially when combined with its HP restoring Ability Ice Body.

Weavile, evolved from Sneasel using a Razor Claw at Night-time, also has a good base Attack stat. Not only this but it has really great speed for getting attacks in first and more often! It’ll be a pretty rare occurrence to come across one in the wild so you’ll definitely want to catch a Sneasel in the Northeastern regions of Glaseado Mountain and North Province (Area One).

Due to its second type, Dark, Weavile suffers from increased vulnerability from Fighting moves. However, this also gives it immunity from Psychic moves.

9Abomasnow

Abomasnow is a great all-rounder to have in any party that needs an Ice-Type Pokémon. Look out though, having the second type, Grass, leaves it susceptible to many more moves, particularly Fire Type.

Players will want to evolve their Snover right away at level 40 to get a big boost in stats. If Abomasnow has the abilitySnow Warning, it will be useful in plays that take advantage of the Snow weather condition effects. Many other Ice-Type Pokémon have big bonuses, such as Glaceon or Baxcalibur, when used in battle with Snow.

8Cryogonal

Cryogonal, originally discovered in Gen 5, is a pure Ice-Type Pokémon that doesn’t have any evolutions. Found, like many Ice Pokémon, in the Glaseado Mountain Region it boasts the highest Special Defense of all Ice-Type Pokémon. This will come in handy against some of the most devastating special movesyou might see in Team Star battles.

Cryogonal has an advantage over many ice Pokémon as it will have the hidden ability Levitate. This makes it a psuedo-flying type Pokémon giving itimmunity from Ground-Typemoves and other arena moves that affect the ground condition, such as Spikes.

Cetitan is a new pure Ice-type Pokémon that evolves from Cedoddle with the use of an Ice Stone. You can find both of these wandering around in the Glaseado Mountain Region, with Cetitan found more often in the northernmost regions.

The great thing about Cetitan is the enormous base HP stat combined with the abilityThick Fatto reduce damage taken from Fire and Ice Moves to make great defensive plays. There’s also a possibility to have the hidden abilitySheer Forcewhich increases the power of moves that have secondary effects by 30%.

Glaceon is another pure Ice-Type Pokémon on this list, evolved fromEevee with an Ice Stonebut can also be found as aTera-Type Pokémon in the far northeastern Glaseado Mountain.

Glaceon has generally average base stats overall, but it does have a really high Special Attack, the highest among all the Ice-Type Pokémon. This will do well with moves like Blizzard and Ice Beam, especially if it’s from the Ice Tera Type Pokémon too. Glaceon will thrive when battling in snow due to its health regeneration fromIce Bodyand if it has theSnow Cloakability with have 20% increased evasion.
