The Hogwarts Legacy-themed DualSense wireless controller coincides with the game’s launch today. Artists Vanessa Palmer and Jeff Bunker detailed their inspiration behind the magical controller via aPlayStation blog post, saying that: “We centered the iconic castle and incorporated swirling motifs of Ancient Magic into the design, highlighting the player’s special role within the story. To add a touch of authenticity, we incorporated old-gold Victorian intaglio etching into the designs of the castle and Ancient Magic swirls, highlighting the era in which the game takes place.”

They also tried a number of colors for the primary theme, but matte black stood out among blue, aqua, and white because it incorporates magic wands and beasts in Hogwarts Legacy. The blog post also touches on how the implementations of the DualSense controller helped Avalanche build a better gaming experience.

Thanks to key technologies like adaptive triggers, tilt controls, and haptic feedback, the controller makes the combat feel authentic and enhances spellcasting. They could build a visual language for spells, each having its own casting impact and area of graphical presentation.

Hogwarts Legacy has had an explosive debut during the deluxe edition’s early access period, with the open-world RPG surpassing Fallout 4 to become the second biggest single-player game launch on Steam after Cyberpunk 2077.
