It hasn’t been a great start to the year at all for Sony after 8% of its global workforce was let go, affecting around 900 hard-working staff members. Among theconstant rise of layoffsand chaos felt across the entirety of the game industry, it seems as though players are now having issues with the company too.

For severalPlayStationusers, there seems to be a rare bug that’s clearing out their digital library games without explanation, and they are not happy at all about it.

The Baldwin Mansion from Last of Us Part 2 and Reported filming scene for HBO The Last of Us Season 2 in circle

The Last of Us Season 2 Reportedly Finds Its Tragic Chalet, Conveniently Near Golf Course

HBO’s The Last of Us season 2 has reportedly found its ‘Baldwin Mansion’ where the tragic Joel scene went down.

On Reddit,a postthat has already gotten over 2.3k likes, discusses a PlayStation player’s dismay and frustration at an apparent rare bug that seems to be wiping all digital licenses from their library, leaving them with no access to their purchased games and also degroups the games from the transaction history. RedditordSuds2342goes on to further say that initially, their transaction history looked normal, but upon closer inspection of the ‘purchased’ section via their games library on PlayStation’s main site, it only shows titles that were included after being exposed to the bug, in their case, since February 29th, 2024.

What looks to be adding more fuel to the fire and making the situation worse is that when the player goes to try and download the game again, PlayStation tells them that they have to “rebuy/re-add from PS+, but when you try to do that it will tell you that you already own the content.” This doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident either, as this bug is impacting other users too. In aseparately linkedReddit post regarding the same issues, other users have been affected by this same dilemma and have even been adding their names, at least 50 people, to a list to gather support.

It’s important to note that this bug doesn’t seem to be linked to another issue regarding players' games being locked after they leave or run out of PS Plus, but rather a digital licensing problem on Sony’s end, who, as noted in the thread, seems to be aware of, but it also doesn’t take away from the fact of how frustrating this is for those who do purchase digital titles with their hard-earned money.

Some PlayStation owners have said that they have been locked out of all licenses across PS4, PS5, and Vita since last year, while another said that they have been locked out of over 300 games, countless DLC, other content, and all applications since the start of February. It certainly seems to be a growing issue and, according to many of the comments in the thread, something that PlayStation has been slow to try and sort out.

This news comes after Sony stated in a December 2023 blog that due tocontent licensing arrangements, users wouldn’t be able to watch Discovery content they purchased, and they’d be removing it from their libraries. Because of what we can only assume was backlash from the announcement, PlayStation backtracked andrevealedthat the content would remain intact for “at least the next 30 months.”
