The price of allPlayStation 5consoles is going up in the United States of America as of tomorrow, with a huge increase put in place by Sony.
As a result of the ongoing tariffs implemented by President Donald Trump, video game companies have beenincreasing the price of their products. Indeed, this isn’t the only time that Sony has raised the PS5’s price, but it was in regions other than the USA, as countries like the UK and Japan were hit first.

With Gamescom 2025 ongoing, Sony tried to slip the news of thePS5 price bumpin a post on the officialPlayStation Blog. According to this post, the price of all three PS5 variants will go up in the USA as of August 13, 2025.
All PS5 Systems Are Seeing A $50 Price Bump
The following price increases will go into effect for PS5s sold at retail:
Sony has confirmed that the cost of PS5 accessories and games won’t be affected, and there are no plans for similar price increases in other regions. Hopefully, this will be the last time these systemssee a bump like this.

Considering that the PS5 has been out for five years now, the people who are interested have had ample time to purchase one. It’s just a shame that anyone who has been holding off this entire time will have to pay more to do so, especially as systems generally lower their cost over time.
It’s frustrating that Sony is only giving fans a day’s notice about the change, as people might have been able to plan ahead and get onebefore the bumpif they had a chance to prepare. However, with only a day’s notice, the people who don’t have a PS5 are likely going to be stuck with the higher price, at least for the time being.
