Phasmophobiahas a robust selection of locales ranging from quiet suburban houses to twisted mental asylums.
There’s something for everyone, but if you’re unsure where to start in your ghost-hunting career, let me show you the best places to try first.

If you’ve beentoo scared to tryPhasmophobiayet, it’s a ton of fun with friends and doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares to get a reaction from you.
Every map in Phasmophobia has merit, so this list is entirely my opinion. With this in mind, don’t get upset if I’ve not included your favorites!

8Sunny Meadows Mental Institution
A Labyrinthine Nightmare
Key Information
Number of Floors
Number of Rooms (including hallways)
Sunny Meadows is arguably themost atmospheric map in the game, and it feels dreadful if you get lost by yourself down the corridors, which seem to go on forever.

Voices echoin Sunny Meadows, a genius way of ramping up tension. Even if you’re silent, the map features utterly terrifying rooms, like the Chapel in the image above.
I often wonder if the residents of locales in Phasmophobia deserve to be haunted. Whoever decorated the Chapel certainly does! Sunny Meadows is alsothe most extensive mapin the game, with multiple wings stretching miles into the darkness.

The size makes the Mental Institution insurmountable for newcomers, but the vibes are truly unmatched.
If you’re a streamer,Phasmophobiais afantastic game to stream, particularly on large maps where your chat can help with the hunt.

7Grafton Farmhouse
Creaky Floorboards And Ominous Vibes
Both farmhouse levels feature on this list as therickety floorboards that creak underfootdo a delightful job of ramping up the tension.
Grafton Farmhouse is a spooky two-floor wooden house that feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. Nothing is outright sinister, but some questionable furniture choices don’t seem right.
I don’t mean to sound mean, but the bathroom isn’t exactly welcoming, is it?
Beyond the menacing aesthetics, Grafton is full oflarge areas with many connecting chambers. The Farmhouse may only have 13 rooms, but it feels like so much more, especially if the ghost decides to smash a light or two.
The low room count is great for quickly identifying the ghost, making for a smooth start to most hunts. I find a cluttered farmhouse far scarier than a tidy suburban home, and Grafton proves you don’t need a confusing layout for some decent scares.
642 Edgefield Road
Well Balanced For SolosAnd Groups
Edgefield Road is a fantastic suburban house complete with ascary basement that houses the breaker.
I enjoy most of the “house” maps, and Edgefield Road has a bit of everything. The basement is pitch black and claustrophobic, the ground floor has open-plan rooms, and the bedrooms upstairs are eerie if you’re exploring alone.
The map size isperfect for solo investigatorsand doesn’t feel crowded with a couple of friends. If some of the tiny maps feel limiting, you’ll appreciate the extra space in Edgefield, and it’s usually pretty easy to identify the Ghost Room.
5Sunny Meadows (Restricted)
Terrifying, But Streamlined
Random (1-2)
I’ve already sung Sunny Meadow’s praises, but itssize is the most common complaintI read about the location.
I completely understand this take, and fortunately, the developers havedevised a superb solution. The restricted variant of Sunny Meadows only contains the central portion of the regular-sized map, along with a single “wing,” which is selected at random.
Sunny Meadows Restricted is far smaller than the original, but it maintains the same unnerving vibes and keeps the fantastic echo filter on voice comms.
The size difference downgrades the mapfrom large to medium, but the random wing is great for replayability, and I don’t feel like the locale loses much due to its streamlining.

4Bleasdale Farmhouse
Did You Really Need To Put The Breaker Up There?
Both Farmhouses inPhasmophobiaare exceptionally creepy, but Bleasdale is guaranteed to instill fear every time you play.
The part that makes my heart sink whenever Bleasdale shows up is theinitial run to the breaker. The house is scary enough, and you want me to wander into the attic alone? Nope, not doing it!
Provided you’re brave enough to restore the lights, the Farmhouse has all the unnerving vibes you’d expect from Grafton. There are lots of creaky floorboards, and the interior looks like something out of a horror movie.
That said, conquering your fears is part of the fun. Bleasdale Farmhouse scares the hell out of me, and I love it for that. The ground and first-floor layouts are intuitive, and the building is more spacious than regular houses.
313 Willow Street
It’s Always The Basements…
13 Willow Street is a roomy single-floor house with acellar that is too large for its own good.
Any hunt in Willow Street always starts with an adventure into the cellar to activate the breaker, and you couldn’t pay me enough to wander down there without a flashlight.
The rest of the house is full of large rooms, and the tabletop in the kitchen is justbig enough to hide from ghostsduring a hunt.
The house may not have many floors, but it has everything I want in a goodPhasmophobiamap. It’s not too tough to track down the Ghost Room, and it’s just large enough that you won’t trip over your buddies.
2Camp Woodwind
You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide
Camp Woodwind is my favorite outdoor map, even if it’s sometimesa deathtrap.
Phasmophobianails the tense atmosphere in claustrophobic houses but also does an admirable job outdoors. Camp Woodwind is atiny campsitewith tents to the side, amenities on the other, and a toilet you wouldn’t use unless you’re absolutely desperate.
The site is mostly dark even with the lights on, and itfeels like the forest has eyesduring the setup phase. Watching ghosts play with the tent doors is scary, but it’s so much worse when the hunt begins.
Camp Woodwind has a distinctlack of hiding spots, and watching a ghost charge at your friends from the other side of the area is as terrifying as it is hilarious.
Some deaths may feel a little unfair, but Camp Woodwind will give your team a night in the woods you’ll never forget.
16 Tanglewood Drive
Original And Best
I’m sure many of you saw this coming, butTanglewood makes the top of the listfor a few reasons.
Tanglewood is the smallest map in the game, so you’ll always quickly find action. The layout feels natural, and the open-plan kitchen isperfect for looping the ghostin, should you need to.
Beyond that, Tanglewood is just a creepy house with an even creepier basement. The breaker is easy to reach, and it’s a map where you’re able to focus on gathering evidence over securing the ghost room.
Cursed Possessionsare in intuitive locations, and it’s a perfect map whether it’s your first game or you’ve played for hundreds of hours. When I hop onPhasmophobia,I always start my sessions on Tanglewoodand typically end there, too.
