Despite the show’s polarizing series finale, Dinklage has remained defensive of the controversial ending. The multiple Emmy-winning actor had been hyping up the finale even before the episode premiered and frustrated fans worldwide. However, the series concluded in 2019 with a lackluster series finale that failed to impress most fans.
Ahead of season 8, Dinklage hyped up the series finale during several media interactions. The actor stated that the ending would be brilliant and praised the showrunners for crafting a satisfying conclusion. He said the following during an interaction with Entertainment Tonight (viaYouTube):

They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could’ve imagined.
Dinklage’s words couldn’t be farther from the truth as the series almost entirely crashed and burned during its final season. Moreover, the much-hyped series finale, which the actor proclaimed was brilliant failed to impress the fans.

During an interview withRolling Stonein 2024, Dinklage defended the controversial series finale and admitted that he liked how the overall story of Westeros ended.

No, but that’s the thing. Again, just my opinion. I like the finale! You don’t have to agree with me.
It’s great. I mean, I think it means you’re doing something right. It’s like an old Irish way of looking at the world. There’s something wrong if everything’s OK.

Dinklage made the above statement, reacting to his previous comments asking viewers to move on from the series, which had infuriated the fans.

Furthermore, the actor explained that he was in support of the ending and argued that he viewed the difference of opinion over the finale as a sign of getting things right.
