For most of the game,Persona 3 Portablehas a straightforward goal, to reach the top of Tartarus and to defeat each of the 12 shadows during the full moon operations. After defeating the twelve shadows, the next step in the story doesn’t seem clear, and the introduction of Royji brings about even more questions.

Ryoji finally explains to SEES who he is and what his purpose is before posing a choice, to kill him or to be killed by Nyx. The final decision is up to the player, and each option will lead to a different ending to the game, one of which being the true ending with additional content and the true final boss of the game.
Letting Ryoji Live
After being told their options, the members of SEES at first seem conflicted, but by the deadline, each member makes itclear they want to let Ryoji liveso that they can face Nyx and try to save the world. Letting Ryoji live isthe “correct” answer if there is one.By letting him live, he will disappear and become the entity Nyx that will bring about the end of the world—letting Ryoji live will give players access to each day during the month of January.
January is the last playable month of the game, and players are tasked with reachingthe top of Tartarusbefore Nyx descends on thetop floor on January 31st.January 31st will require you to get to the top floor, and splitting up the long journey in the last few areas into multiple trips will make this quest much more bearable. Byreaching the top floor and beating Nyx, you’ll unlockthe “good” endingof the game.

Killing Ryoji
All of SEES, except Aigis, doesn’t want to kill Ryoji, and as the one who housed death for so many years, the decision comes down to you alone. You and Ryoji return to your room, where he begs you to kill him, and by selecting to do so, the screen will fade to black, and there will bea slight time jump to graduation day in March.Selecting this option will effectivelycut out the last section of the game, not requiring you the finish Tartarus, skip the final boss, and get an alternate ending. Making this decisioneffectively ends the gameand offers no more gameplay before rushing the player to an alternate ending.
Much like Ryoji promises, all of SEESloses their memories, and only a few are still friends. At graduation, Mitsuru gives a speech on how ignorance is bliss, and the protagonist, Yukari, and Junpei, hang out one last time. During a few final frames, the screen will go white, signifying Nyx’s arrival and the end of the world, ending the game with the “bad ending.”
