Instead, it has opened up a box of questions for Sony and superhero movie fans alike. WhenJoker 2dropped a stinker at the Box Office, fans wondered what went wrong with the highly touted sequel. ButKraven the Hunter’sawful run has made fans realize that Joker 2 was not that bad.

It has been a year to forget for the Sony Spider-Man Universe (and superhero movies)

Kraven the Hunterwas originally scheduled to release in January 2023. But innumerable delays came in the way. None of that could stop the movie from hitting the theatres. And fans are not sure whether it’s good or bad.

Releasing in December 2024, the Sony Pictures movie has been far from a success on any front. To be fair, it has not been a good year for Sony.Venom: The Last Dance, though a nice conclusion to the franchise, made half of what the OGVenommade.Madame Webwas another dismal outing. And to cap (and top) it all off,Kraven the Hunterhas charted unexplored lows.

These aren’t the only comic book superhero movies that had a hard time this year.Joker 2was another sad story. What many expected to be one of the greatest hits this year turned out to be a major disappointment. Made on a budget of $200 million, and marketed on another $100 million, theLady Gagastarrer came at a huge cost to Warner Bros. Studio.

It was believed that Warner Bros. needed to make at least $450 million to break even. And it has only made a little over $200 million over its theatrical run, a figureTodd Phillipswould like to forget.

Why fans believe thatJoker 2deserved a little better?

The SSMU project has taken a step forward (actually backward). On its domestic Box Office opening day, it earned a meager $4.7 million, a record that might not be bettered this year. For context, a fan highlighted thatMorbiusmade 8 times that amount.

Yes, superhero fatigue is at its peak. There is also no doubt about the fact that Kraven’s character is not going to have any large-scale impact in a multiversal war that is going to go down a few years from now (or who knows). But none of these factors are enough to justify what has been a timid performance at the domestic Box Office.

As scrutiny intensifies over the colossal failure thatKraven the Hunterhas proved itself to be, fans are left wondering whether they gave more disrespect toJoker 2than it deserved.
