This news comes shortly afterNintendo’s announcement to sue PocketPair, the developers of Palworld. The game is broadening its horizons and deepening its ties with major game companies, even as Nintendo’s lawyers draw closer.

It remains to be seen if this move is a sign of confidence that Nintendo’s lawsuit won’t hit home, but it’s certainly a plausible interpretation. This deal would likely have been confirmed weeks in advance, even before Nintendo revealed its hand. However, it’s moving forward anyway, perhaps a good sign for Pocketpair and Sony, who would not want to spend money (and airtime) on a project that might not exist once the courts reach their verdict.
