Blizzardhas disabled aim-assist inOverwatch 2, but only for console players when playing against PC players. While it may seem like this would level the playing field, console players are voicing their opinions and they are not happy about it.
As anyone who has played cross-play can attest to, PC players can quickly dominate against a controller. A mouse and keyboard have been said to be much more accurate and reactive than a controller, giving PC players an edge by quickly and accurately targeting enemies.

One Redditor not only noticed but has commented on the effects of this change.KellySweetHeartsays that for console players in their group there is “less enjoyment out of the game being disadvantaged in this way”. While the lack of aim-assist isn’t an actual disadvantage, many claim the mouse and keyboard to be so superior to a controller that aim-assist is needed to compete against a PC player.
Competitive play for Overwatch is locked to using the same console, meaning this change only affects casual games.Blizzardhas not given an official reason for why this change was made but many guess it’s to push fair play across the board in cross-play.
This is only the most recent issue following the release of Overwatch 2. So far the game has hadDDoS attacks that hurt the servers, and loading queues spanning thousands of players. For those able to get in, another bug had thempurchasing skins unknowingly,and were unable to refund them. There was also a period where almost half the heroes were locked out due to a bug only affecting a few of them.
Needless to say, Overwatch 2 has had a rocky start, but Blizzard has been working diligently to stay up to date and combat each new bug as they appear. It’s still to be seen if they give an official reason for why the aim-assist was removed and if this is a permanent change or just another growing pain of the new release.
