Pick up any selection of anime, and most of them would be about high schoolers. But if any series was able to make the most dramatic adaptation out of high school life, it would beOuran High School Host Club. Despite being a far cry from reality, the series absorbs its audience with an elegant and comic flare.

The story of a girl being mistaken as a boy and enlisted into a host club, only for the members to realize her identity too late, is a hilarious take. Even after 18 years of the debut of its anime adaptation, every one wants a piece of it. Unfortunately once you’ve completed it, no more crumbs are available for you.
Ouran High School Host Club‘s Manga Kept it Alive After the Anime Didn’t Receive Season 2
The anime adaptation ofOuran High School Host Clubis an extremely interesting series to watch. But only if you haven’t already read the manga. In fact, the best way to approach the work is by watching the anime first before moving on to the manga. That way, you already know the core characters and their personalities as well as some of the most hilarious scenes.

But if you read the manga first, you will be confused by how much of the source material has been skipped or condensed in the anime. Since the anime aired in 2006 and the manga ended in 2011, the anime only had half of the story to work with. It was never meant to receive a second season since it aired a completely original ending.
Even though the anime never received a sequel, Bisco Hatari’s manga gave a favorable ending toOuran High School Host Club. Why the studio never picked it up for a sequel is still a mystery, much like most of the single-standing anime from the era. However, both the anime and manga have remained immortal in the hearts of fans.

Ouran High School Host Club‘s Anime is a Must-Watch Despite its Shortcomings
TheOuran High School Host Clubanime can’t be called the most satisfying adaptation of its source material. It crammed a lot of chapters in 26 episodes, which made lots of important details, conversations, and jokes to be left out. The ending of the anime also makes little sense, and the manga has a much more satisfying conclusion.
No Shoujo Anime Would Beat “One of the best confessions in anime” and My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 Did that in Only One Season
But despite its shortcomings, the anime has stood the test of time. Most of the credits must go to the absolute gold standards of English dubbing that it has received. The voices and acting completely suit the characters, and the gag scenes are on point despite the translation barrier.
Author Bisco Hatori has admitted that the series is meant to be a Yaoi manga parody. It is one of the finest examples of the fujoshi comedy genre. The animation is extremely pretty and aptly adapts the shenanigans of its main characters with appropriate techniques.

Ouran High School Host Clubanime is available to watch on Netflix.
