The introduction of Seraphims in theOne Pieceuniverse has fascinated the fans for their exhibition of immense powers. Modeled after the Warlords of the Sea, and with the combination of Lunarian DNA and the original Warlords’ abilities, these clones possess massive potential. However, one particular Seraphim, modeled after Crocodile, seems to be a deliberate misstep by Vegapunk inOne Piece.

As Crocodile’s abilities are difficult to replicate, Vegapunk may have knowingly created a “useless” Seraphim by choosing him. Instead, more practical options, like Trafalgar Law, could have been a much better candidate for replication.
The Major Problem with Crocodile’s Seraphim inOne Piece
Dr. Vegapunk’s Seraphim project aimed to create clones of the Warlords of the Sea with even greater power, by blending their abilities with the unique traits of the Lunarian race. Each Seraphim retained the fighting abilities of their Warlord counterparts, along with the durability of Lunarian DNA. Yet Crocodile’s inclusion among the Seraphim raises eyebrows for a certain reason.
Crocodile’s Logia-type Devil Fruit,Suna Suna no Mi, allows him to transform into and control sand, making him unpredictable in fights. However, Replicating this power in a Seraphim presents a major hurdle. While Paramecia and Zoan-type Devil Fruit powers can be transferred or replicated to a certain extent, the fluid nature of Logia powers like Crocodile’s sand manipulation cannot be accurately copied.

One Piece Theory: Eiichiro Oda is Hiding a Second Luffy in Chapter 1127
For this crucial factor, Crocodile’s Seraphim S-Croc is unable to properly utilize his Devil Fruit powers, rendering it far less effective than Seraphim based on other Warlords. In other words, S-Croc is considered “useless” in terms of maximizing the combat potential Vegapunk wanted to create.
Why Trafalgar Law Would Have Been a Better Candidate for the Seraphim Project
Compared to Crocodile, Trafalgar D. Water Law would be a far better candidate for theSeraphim project. As a wielder of Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, Ope Ope no Mi’s powers are more tangible and manipulatable than Crocodile’s Logia powers. Ope Ope no Mi allows Law to create a spherical domain in which he can manipulate anything within it, from people’s body parts to the environment itself.
These abilities would be far more feasible for Vegapunk to replicate in a Seraphim. However, The decision to include Crocodile as a Seraphim could indicate that Vegapunk was not able to choose freely which Warlords to clone or was instructed to prioritize certain figures over others. Despite knowing that Crocodile’s powers couldn’t be fully replicated, Vegapunk may have created the Seraphim based on Crocodile to satisfy the World Government’s demands.

“This MF was ugly”: One Piece Changing Gol D. Roger’s Design May Not Have Been Eiichiro Oda’s Best Idea
S-Croc may very well be the weakest of the clones due to the inherent limitations of copying Logia’s abilities. While it remains speculative, the omission of more practical Warlords likeTrafalgar Lawsuggests that Vegapunk could have made better decisions in designing the Seraphim. Whether due to external pressure or the experimental nature of cloning Logia users, Crocodile’s Seraphim stands as an example of the potential flaws within the project.
It’s not clear whether this misstep was made intentionally by the World Government or just a blunder on the side ofEiichiro Odahimself. But if it were done deliberately, it would most likely reveal the World Government’s underlying intentions and ambitions for it inOne Piece.

One Pieceis currently available to read and watch on Viz Media and Crunchyroll, respectively.
