Recently, Toei Animation left theOne Piecefandom in pieces after the anime announced an unexpected six-month hiatus in the broadcast of its current Egghead Island arc. Though fans must wait until April 2025 for the Straw Hat Pirates’ return, the fandom is abuzz with theories, including one linking Oda’s One Piece inspiration to its rival series,Naruto.

Will the Truth ofOne PiecePoint to Oda-sensei Drawing Inspiration fromNaruto?

For over 25 years,Eiichiro Oda‘sOne Piecehas been enthralling fans without a single dull moment. Indeed, a break is essential for this remarkable anime to preserve its legacy.

Even after decades, Luffy fans aren’t tired of following the adventures of this young and enthusiastic boy. With the mangaka announcing the manga’s nearing conclusion, fan theories have flooded the internet, with many beingintriguing enough to captivate any fan.

Devil fruits

Interestingly, a recent theory has gained significant attention, revealing the truth behind theOne Pieceworld, Devil Fruits, and its creation, suggesting a theme similar to its famous rival series,Naruto.

Arguably, the mostmysterious elementof theOne Pieceuniverse is the Devil Fruits, which, despite being introduced early on, remain one of the series’ greatest enigmas.

Devil Fruits have formed the primary power system ofOne Piecefor decades now, yet Oda-sensei barely sheds any light on this mysterious item’s origins.

According to Vegapunk, Devil Fruits exist because of human desires. While this idea makes a lot of sense, it still doesn’t explain how Devil Fruits came into existence.

Devil Fruits might exist because someone wished for them; however, at the end of the day, they are fruits. Naturally, the first thing that would come to mind for anyOne Piecefan is a Devil Fruit Tree, but since it has no reference inthe story, the mystery deepens.

Yet, the idea of a Devil Fruit Tree isn’t all that far-fetched. Fans may be surprised to learn that Oda-sensei has mentioned a Devil Fruit Tree in his side story himself, meaning it could very well make it into the story at some point later down the line.

While all of this is intriguing, the theory takes things up a notch by explaining the origins and existence of the Devil Fruit Tree. If true, it would be a clear inspiration drawn fromNaruto.

The Origin of the Devil Fruit Tree: A Potential Inspiration fromNaruto?

The theory suggests that, even before the Void Century, two powerful forces dominated theOne Pieceworld: the Goddess of the Sea and the God of the Sky. They battled to the brink of death, with the Goddess emerging victorious, only to be deceived and trapped by the God of the Sky’s followers as part of their devious plan.

The followers planned to trap the Goddess of the Sea to use her powers for their own desires, with the entire scheme orchestrated by Imu (the current antagonist of the story). However, the Goddess, enraged by humanity’s selfishness, fulfilled their wishes but in the form of Devil Fruits.

Enraged by humanity’s selfishness, the Goddess swears to wait for eternity until Imu is defeated and a successor (Will of D) arrives to free her, ending the curse on humanity.

This would also explain why thedevil fruit users lose their ability to swimas it’s a curse placed by the goddess.

It also provides an explanation for the rising sea levels inOne Piece, further strengthening the theory.

The Goddess is said to be sealed inside a form of a tree now known as Devil Fruit Tree, which is situated in El Dorado – the gold city in Laugh Tale, also the last island in the New World.

This would explain why the Devil Fruit Tree hasremained a secret for centuries, with Imu’s involvement and Joyboy’s mysterious message serving as the key for Luffy to free the Goddess of the Sea.

Nevertheless, if all of this turns out to be true, it would also serve as an inspiration fromMasashi Kishimoto‘sNaruto, particularly the story of Kaguya and the God Tree.
